The United States Postal Service announced on Saturday that the price of stamps will rise by three cents fixing a postage stamp at 49 cents. For the people who previously bought Forever Stamps, the increase in cost will not affect them. The purpose of Forever Stamps is to ensure that the postage stamps are valid despite price increments. Forever Stamps proved very popular with the public, obtaining 84 percent of postage stamp sales in 2012.
Keeping pace with inflation, one-cent out of the three cent price increase is a reflection of the inflation rate.
