In Star Wars News: Jesse Plemons of Breaking Bad, who plays “Psycho” Todd Alquist, is a lock to play yet another conflicted character in Star Wars: Episode VII, Luke Skywalker’s son, if the rumors hold true. Director J.J. Abrams has called him for a second audition, and Plemons, 25, is the right age to play Skywalker’s son in the Disney flick, which is scheduled to come to a theater near you December 18, 2015.
Also according to Disney, the rumor that R2-D2 will be back is true, and the lead characters in the original Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, will reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are reportedly getting back into shape in preparation for their roles.
Besides directing Star Wars: Episode VII, Abrams along with Lawrence Kasdan are the movie’s scriptwriters. Toy Story 3‘s Michael Arndt was the screenwriter, until Abrams and Kasdan took over his duties. The co-producers of the movie are J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burke, and eight-time Academy Award nominated Lucasfilms president, Kathleen Kennedy. The executive producers are Jason McGatlin and Tommy Harper.
Another piece of good news for Star Wars fans is that the legendary composer John Williams, who scored the music for the original Star Wars trilogy, will also score the soundtrack for this sequel.
Jesse Plemons has appeared in the movies Battleship, Varsity Blues, and The Master, and he’s also starring in the upcoming movie, The Homesman. On TV, Plemons has had roles in shows like Friday Night Lights and Bent.
Fans of Breaking Bad will probably always remember him as playing “Psycho” Todd. He emulates the character Jesse Pinkman, but he also ends up torturing him, chaining him up, and forcing him to cook meth for him and his Uncle Jack until Walter White (Bryan Cranston) eventually rescues Pinkman.
Plemons will met with J.J. Abrams next week and have his taped second audition with him, which he will do in Austin, Texas. No one at either Disney nor Lucasfilms has yet confirmed the role which Plemons is being considered for, but it seems likely that it’s for one of two starring roles. Jesse Plemons has more than a passing resemblance to Mark Hamill, so he would be perfect to play Luke Skywalker’s son.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set right after the death of Darth Vader. The movie will go into the production stage during the spring of 2014.
Will Jesse Plemons play the son of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VII? While J.J. Abrams, Disney, and Lucasfilms are keeping mum on the role that Plemons is being considered for, he would certainly be one great possibile choice to play Skywalker’s son.
Fans of the Star Wars franchise will definitely enjoy seeing their old favorite characters like Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and R2-D2 reappear in Star Wars: Episode VII. Perhaps Jesse Plemons of Breaking Bad fame will be joining them on movie screens across the country and the world, and become a new fan favorite in this enduring franchise.
