There were many categories at the Grammy Awards, with Taylor Swift being a candidate under album of the year. There are speculations as to whether or not Swift and her team thought she was the winner when it was announced.
Some of the categories of the night included record of the year, album of the year, rock performance and country album, with each category contained about 5 nominees. Swift’s Red album was a nominee for album of the year along side Random Access Memories by Daft Punk, Blessed Unrest by Sara Bareilles, Good Kid, The Heist by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Good Kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar,
Swift seemed in shock when she didn’t win another Grammy. Over the years the young singer has been nominated 279 times and has won 218 awards. Throughout her career, Swift has won 7 Grammy Awards since 2008.
In 2008, Swift was nominated for best new artist at the Grammy Awards. Unfortunately she did not win that award but she was honored to even be nominated for a Grammy so soon in her career. Although she was not a winner this year, she made sure to make a comeback at the 2010 awards.
In 2010 Swift was nominated eight times for record of the year, song of the year and best female pop vocal performance for her song You Belong With Me. She was also nominated to be best pop collaboration with vocals for Breath with Colbie Caillat as well as best country album for Speak Now. The other categories she was nominated in include album of the year and best country album for her album Fearless, best female country vocal performance and best country song for her song White Horse. Out of the eight nominations, Swift walked away with four awards.
In 2012 she was only nominated 3 times, while walking away with 2 out of 3 awards. She unfortunately did not win the best country album for Speak Now. However, she did win best country solo performance and best country song for her song Mean. This song is thought to be about rapper Kanye West for his diss at the 2009 VMAs.
At the 2013 Grammy Awards, Swift was nominated for 3 awards, and only walked away with one. The song she was nominated for to be record of the year was We are Never Ever Getting Back Together. Her song Safe & Sound with The Civil Wars was nominated for best country duo/group performance as well as best song written for visual media. Although she did not win for best country duo/group performance, she did win a Grammy for best song written for visual media.
Swift was nominated four times at the 56th Grammy Awards. These nominations included Red for being album of the year and best country album, Begin Again for best country song and Highway Don’t Care featuring Tim McGraw and Keith Urban for best country duo/group performance. This would be the first year since 2008 that she was nominated for awards, and didn’t receive one of them. While the winner for album of the year was being announced, the public could see Swift’s reaction as she thought they were announcing Red when in actuality, they were announcing Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. After the confusion was over, Swift showed her appreciation for Daft Punk by smiling and clapping as they accepted their award. It is not 100 percent clear if Swift and her party in fact confused Random Access Memories for Red but if they had, they covered it up by showing their appreciation for Daft Punk. Unfortunately Swift will not be able to overcome the moment she and her party thought the award was to her. This video is going viral on the internet and there are no reports as to what Swift has to say about the possible confusion.
