The 40th People’s Choice Awards 2014 (CBS) on Wednesday night took place at the beautiful Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. The nominations were announced on November 5, 2013. Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings, the co-stars of 2 Broke Girls, were the co-hosts.

Some of the top celebrities of 2013 were up for awards and were in attendance at the event, like Stephen Colbert, Justin Timberlake, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Downey Jr., and many more. Among the acts performing live on the People’s Choice Awards show were Sara Bareilles, OneRepublic, and Brad Paisley.

The People’s Choice Awards opened with the co-hosts and some of their co-stars doing a skit as their characters from 2 Broke Girls. They waited on a table with cast characters from The Big Bang Theory, the lead singer from Vampire Weekend, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and others. Christina Aguilera appeared as one of the other waitresses.

Kaley Cuoco gave the “two broke girls” tickets to The People’s Choice Awards. Walter White from Breaking Bad “drove” them to the show, and “Royals” played as Kat and Beth introduced the show, and said that “it’s all about YOU,” the viewers, who voted for your favorites in each category.

Sean Hayes presented the first award, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actress. Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Melissa McCarthy, and Scarlett Johansen were nominated. The award went to Sandra Bullock, who Hayes called “my wife.”

Next, Jessica Alba presented the award for People’s Choice Favorite Album. Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines, Blake Shelton’s Based On a True Story, Miley Cyrus’s Bangerz, Michael Bublé’s To Be Loved, and Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience were the nominees. Justin Timberlake walked away with the award for The 20/20 Experience.

The People’s Choice Award for Favorite Daytime Host had five people and shows nominated: Ellen DeGeneres, The Ellen DeGeneres Show; Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, Live with Kelly and Michael; Phil McGraw, Dr. Phil; Rachael Ray, Rachael Ray; and, Steve Harvey, Steve Harvey. The award went to Ellen DeGeneres. It marked the 14th. time that she’s won the award.

The People’s Choice Award for Favorite New Talk Show Host went to Queen Latifah for The Queen Latifah Show. She’s hosted The People’s Choice Awards show five times, and this was her first win.

Then, Sarah Bareilles performed “Brave,” from the movie by the same title. She played the piano as she sang, and she sounded great.

After a commercial break, The People’s Choice Awards 2014 show was back with Blake Shelton doing a People’s Choice Awards Confessional, like he does on The Voice. Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Carson Daly appeared in a skit.

Kat Dennings introduced Drew Barrymore, who presented the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor. The nominees were: Adam Sandler, Bradley Cooper, Chris Rock, James Franco, and Zach Galifanakis. The award went to Adam Sandler. It marked his third consecutive win in this category.

Adam read a “fan letter” out loud, by a supposed fan who wrote in very broken English. He finished, saying it was from: “Your fan for life, Drew Barrymore.”

Next on the People’s Choice Awards 2014, the nominees for the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Network TV Drama were Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, The Good Wife, and Parenthood. The award went to The Good Wife.

Then, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedy Movie was given out. The movies nominated were: Grown Ups 2, The Hangover Part III, The Heat, Instructions Not Included, and We’re the Millers. The award went to The Heat. Both Melissa McCarthy and Jennifer Aniston, who co-star in the movie, accepted the award.

The nominees on the People’s Choice Awards show for The People’s Choice Award for Favorite Chemistry were Richard Castle & Kate Beckett, Castle; Damon Salvatore & Elena Gilbert, The Vampire Diaries; Derek Shepherd & Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy; Emma Swan & Hook, Once Upon a Time; and, Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson, Glee.The winners were Damon Salvatore & Elena Gilbert.

Brad Paisley, the second musical act of the night on the People’s Choice Awards show, then performed his latest hit song, “Mona Lisa.” Someone from the audience handed him her camera phone as he sang, and he recorded her and the audience for a few seconds as he performed.

Back from another break, The People’s Choice Awards co-hosts, Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, did a comedy bit where Beth demonstrated her vocal talents, singing bits of songs like “The Sound of Music” and “Wrecking Ball.”

The nominees for the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Pop Artist were Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, and Katy Perry. The award went to Britney Spears, and it was her first time to win a People’s Choice Award.

Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J from NCIS presented the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedic TV Actress. The nominees were: Jane Lynch, Kaley Cuoco, Lea Michele, Melissa McCarthy, and Zooey Deschanel. The award went to Kaley Cuoco of The Big Bang Theory. She’s hosted the People’s Choice Awards twice, but this marked her first win.

The People’s Award for Favorite Comedic TV Actor was the next award handed out on the People’s Choice Awards show. The nominees were: Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jim Parsons, and Neil Patrick Harris. It went to Chris Colfer from Glee. It was his second win on the People’s Choice Awards show.

The People’s Choice Awards then presented the award for Favorite Action Movie Star. The nominees were Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel, and Robert Downey Jr. Robert Downey Jr. won the award for playing Tony Stark in Iron Man 3.

The People’s Choice Awards next musical performers were OneRepublic singing their hit song Counting Stars. It’s a great song, one of the best ones of many fantastic hits from 2013. They gave a kick-ass, energetic performance.

Back from break, the People’s Choice Awards had Stephen Colbert, from The Colbert Report, doing a comedy bit via video about the People’s Choice Awards. He said that these rewards were very American, as the people get to choose the winners. He won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Late Night TV Talk Show Host.

Wayne Brady then introduced LL Cool J, who presented a special People’s Choice Awards honor for Favorite Humanitarian to Jennifer Hudson for creating a gift foundation for children called the Julian B. Kane Gift Foundation.

The People’s Choice Awards show, after a commercial break, handed out the award for Favorite Comedy Actress in a New TV Series. The award went to Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was her first win of a People Choice Award.

Matthew LeBlanc presented the award for Favorite Network TV Comedy. 2 Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, and Modern Family were the nominees. The winner was The Big Bang Theory. It was their third win.

The People’s Choice Awards showcased the best actors, actresses, and music of 2013, as voted upon by the people of America.
