Tito Ortiz was arrested early Monday morning for a suspected DUI after crashing his 2012 Porsche Panamera on the 405 freeway in West Los Angeles. He crashed into a center median after losing control of his car, but neither he nor his two passengers sustained injury. Prior to the crash, he was at a party at the Playboy Mansion.
According to TMZ, Ortiz, 38, was given a breathalyzer test after the crash, which showed his alcohol limit as .12, well above the legal limit of .08 for the state of California. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed Ortiz was arrested and booked into jail before being released on $15,000 bail about two hours after his arrest. According to Ortiz’s arrest record, the DUI was listed as a misdemeanor, and he will have to appear in court Jan. 27.
A Troubled Portrait of Tito Ortiz
Tito Ortiz, the former mixed martial arts (MMA) champion arrested for a suspected DUI, has courted trouble in the past. Known as the “bad boy” of his native Huntington Beach, he had a conflicted marriage to former porn star Jenna Jameson, with whom he has twin sons. After Ortiz’s DUI arrest Monday morning, Jameson tweeted, “I knew karma would get him!” Ironically, Jameson herself was convicted for a DUI in 2012.
In 2010, before their marriage, Ortiz accused Jameson of an addiction to the powerful narcotic Oxycontin, which reportedly led to his arrest on a felony domestic violence charge after he found drugs in their Huntington Beach home. At the time, he claimed he never struck Jameson and wanted to help her because of his own family history of drug abuse: “My parents have gone through an addiction …I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be OK.” After this incident, Jameson tweeted, “I can’t take any more abuse from ANYONE.. To my sweet fans…thank you.”
During this time, however, Jameson vacillated between claims that Ortiz had beat her and that he had not. After Ortiz’s arrest on the domestic violence charge, she was quoted as saying, “It hurts me to think that everybody out there thinks he beat me … If he would have beat me, I would be dead right now. There was an altercation.”
Ortiz and Jameson began their relationship in 2006. She gave birth to their twin sons in 2009, but Ortiz allegedly has custody of their twins now, as evidenced by this tweet from Jameson in May 2013: “My children need their mother not a random drug addict (sic).” Jameson has also accused her ex-husband of drug abuse.
Ortiz was married before Jameson, to a woman named Kristin, who reportedly claimed Ortiz never struck her during their five-year marriage and they have known each other since they were 15 years old. The former couple has a son together.
Tito Ortiz Quotes
“I have one simple moto: Train for the worst and the best will happen.”
“I wanted to let people know that it is possible for somebody to start out living a life as a total zero and end up living a life that most people dream about.”
“Believe in your goals. Always try to set an example for other people to better this world …Work in the community – that’s something I do a lot myself … I’m not just about being a fighter. I try to go the extra mile and use my fighting status as a vehicle to do other things: help with kids, try to keep them out of gangs, and give them better options. That’s what really matters.”
Although Tito Ortiz was arrested for a suspected DUI, it is not expected to affect his Punishment Athletics business, which sells men and women’s fighting gear. The clothing website also has collectibles and accessories for children.
