The United States strikes in Somalia and has dispatched an airstrike against a high-ranking al-Qaeda and al Shabaab leader in a secluded region of the country, as said by a Defense Department official.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official stated that the United States military is presently evaluating “the effectiveness of the strike” against the target in Somalia that it was intended for.
The official would not confirm if drone, missile or other procedures carried out the strike. However, NBC News, who also cited unnamed U.S. military officials, reported that the strike was executed by missile.
The official told USA Today that the U.S. strike mission was a “coordinated operation” consisting of various military branches against a senior leader of the al-Qaeda terror organization in an isolated area near Barawe, Somalia.
