Whenever Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt show up to an event, you can guarantee high ratings. That is why the Academy Awards are pleased to announce that they snagged Hollywood royalty to present this year.
The 86th Academy Awards will air this Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the show’s producers, released the names on Monday of the a-listers who will be presenting. In the announcement, they said, “We are excited that the Hollywood community will be turning out in full force for Sunday’s Oscar ceremony.”
They added, “We thought to include a tremendous diversity of stars to represent not only this year’s nominees, but the legacy of the motion picture business as well.” And they mean it, having last year’s winners like Jennifer Lawrence (who won the BAFTA in the same category for American Hustle), Anne Hathaway and Daniel Day-Lewis.
Presenting as previous Oscar winners include Charlize Theron, Sidney Poitier, Sally Field, Goldie Hawn, Robert De Niro, Kevin Spacey and Penelope Cruz.
Former Oscar nominees that will be presenting consist of names like Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Samuel Jackson, Harrison Ford, Will Smith, Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), Glenn Close, Bill Murray, Viola Davis (The Help) and Naomi Watts (The Impossible).
Even though Angelina Jolie is not up for any awards this year, the Academy Awards are definitely excited to snag her and Brad Pitt as presenters as they are the epitome of Hollywood royalty. Jolie is always a favorite and made big news and earned great respect when she had publicly announced she had a mastectomy back in early 2013.
Genetic testing can be done to see if there are any mutations in the genes BRCA1 or BRCA2 which would increase a woman’s chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer by 5 times. Jolie decided to take preventative measures by having a double mastectomy, cutting the actress’ chances of being diagnosed down by 90%.
Brad Pitt, who co-produced and co-starred in 12 Years a Slave, is nominated for 9 Awards. The categories include Best Director, Best Actor and Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and, of course, Best Film. Nominated for those awards in the same order are Steve McQueen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o.
Nyong’o was also nominated in the same category at the BAFTA Awards which aired Sunday, February 10. Though she is new on the scene, she is already proving to be a force in the business, not to mention that people love her impeccable style, which seems to land her on every Best Dressed list at any event she appears at. Fashion goes hand in hand with the Academy Awards and all eyes will definitely be on her, Jolie and many others as they walk the famous red carpet.
This year’s Award show will definitely be one not to miss. With the huge list of big stars attending and presenting it is sure to be a hit. Ellen DeGeneres is sure to entertain and amuse as she hosts the event for the second time.
Other Hollywood royalty that were snagged by the Academy Awards are Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey and Anna Kendrick. The Oscars will air on Sunday, March 2 on ABC.
