Mr. Hoffman was a winner of an Academy Award as Best Actor for his role in the 2005 movie Capote, in which he played the famous writer Truman Capote. He had also gone through drug addiction treatment, and talking about it in various news interviews he gave. He stated just in 2013 that he had “fallen off the wagon” last year after staying clean for nearly 25 years. He had done very much film and theater work in his lifetime but his latest movie project was filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, playing the major role of Plutarch Heavensbee.

In his personal life, Hoffman had been in a long term relationship with Mimi O’Donnell, who was a costume designer. The two had met while they both worked on a 1999 play that Hoffman had directed. It was only around 2 p.m. on Sunday that over a hundred people had congregated outside the area in which they found the actor’s body. The crowd was next to a brick apartment complex on Bethune Street in New York City, and it was getting larger by the minute. Even as more individuals went by, they would stop, take some photographs, hold hands with one another and just stand and watch. It almost seemed as if they were waiting for something else to occur.

One man who was in the crowd, that explained that he himself lived nearby, stated that Hoffman was basically a local in the neighborhood, a person that was seen out and about very often. He stated that Hoffman was often with his children inside the various coffee shops, and that he was a very sweet man. The passerby stated that Hoffman’s death was something that is extremely tragic.

A short distance from the group of people, there were two men who acknowledged themselves as being friends of Hoffman. They were embracing one another and both were sobbing. Sadly, again Hollywood actor Phil Seymour Hoffman is allegedly dead from an apparent overdose of drugs.
