Beyoncé, the millionaire singer, has a half-brother who has to survive on food stamps. The boy shares a father with Beyoncé and the father refuses to honor court, and moral, commitments.
Matthew Knowles, 60, is an American music executive. The father of singers Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, he also managed Beyonce’s music career until the singer terminated their professional relationship. The break-up came when Knowles was found to have fathered a child as the result of an affair with an actress.
Knowles began his business career in medical equipment sales. In 1976 he moved to Houston to work for Xerox in the medical-systems division. From there he sold CT/MRI diagnostic equipment to health facilities. In 1992 he switched careers to devote himself full-time to his music company, Music World Entertainment.
Music World Entertainment
Under Knowles leadership, Music World Entertainment fostered several labels including Music World Gospel, Music World Kids and Music World Country. Music World Entertainment has produced several artists including his daughters, Beyoncé Knowles and Solange Knowles. In 2007, Knowles obtained ownership of the country music Compadre catalog which included singers Johnny Cash and Billy Joe Shaver.
For awhile, Knowles managed the vocal trio Destiny’s Child which included his daughter Beyoncé. Under Music World Artist Management, Destiny’s Child became a hit group and won several awards including the Grammy, BET and AMA. Before Beyonce’s departure from the group, Billboard magazine included the trio into the All Time Hot 100 Artists.
Marriage, Divorce and Affair
Knowles married stylist Tina Knowles in 1980 and remained married until 2009. Tina Knowles filed for divorce after reports surfaced that Matthew had an illicit affair with Alexsandra Wright. The reports also stated that Wright was pregnant with Knowles’ child. After Wright gave birth to a son, Nixon, she demanded a paternity test from Knowles. Knowles, who had acknowledged the affair but denied paternity, was found by DNA to be the father of Nixon and was ordered to pay child support.
Beyonce’s dad has neglected his responsibilities to the point that his son’s mother has to use food stamps just to live. Alexsandra Wright has not gotten any money from Matthew Knowles since December when he owed $24 thousand. Now, according to sources, that figure has grown to over $32 thousand. Meanwhile, Beyonce’s half-brother is forced to live on food stamps along with his mother.
According to court records, Wright, whose son is Beyonce’s half brother, lives on public assistance and gets $300 a month of state assistance to pay for food and other living expenses. Wright has gone to get help from the California courts and a judge is considering a variety of options.
Credit Card Company Sues
Knowles, who made millions in the 90s, has been sued by a credit bureau over claims that he owes almost $65 thousand in unpaid fees. Knowles had hired the firm to help in handling his finances, and they claim in court filings that Knowles has failed to live up to his fiduciary responsibility. The financial hits Knowles was taking has grown to include unpaid taxes.
Just a few days after Grammy-winning Lauryn Hill was sent to prison for three months over unpaid taxes, Matthew Knowles was the recipient of a tax lien totaling $1.2 million. According to court documents, Knowles owes $485,575.95 for 2010 and $728,004.89 for 2011. Both years came at a time he was managing Beyonce’s career.
With tax bills that size, Knowles may never be able to get current financially which could mean Beyonce’s half-brother will live on food stamps for some years to come.
