Christina Aguilera got a special treat this Valentine’s Day; a proposal. The Beautiful singer shared the big news through her Facebook page, simply stating “he asked and I said…” underneath a photo of her gorgeous engagement ring.
The couple met on the set of Burlesque, where she starred with the legendary singer and actress Cher. Her now-fiancé, Matt Rutler was the production assistant on the set and the two hit it off straight away. Aguilera had just been through a divorce and Rutler was there when she needed someone. It seemed like the classic rebound relationship for the singer, but three years later they are still together and as happy as ever.
The former Disney star previously married Jordan Bratman and they had one child together, son Max Bratman. Rutler has reportedly been a constant part of Max’s life. For Max’s fourth birthday, the singer and production assistant took him to Legoland for the day and then San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel. It will be much easier for Rutler to integrate as step-father after spending so long with the young boy. Photos have regularly been shared to show how much young Bratman is a major part of the celebrity couple’s life together. The only holiday the pair was spotted without the young boy was their first Thanksgiving together when the singer met Rutler’s parents.
Aguilera had taken some time out of the music scene after having her son. She tried to break into the Hollywood scene just after her divorce from Bratman, but it just didn’t seem to work out. In the end, the Genie in a Bottle singer went back to the thing she is good at: singing. The Valentine’s Day proposal for Aguilera is just the topping to an excellent past 12 months.
Instead of releasing her own tracks, she took to coaching other upcoming stars. She started on the show for the first season with Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. At the end of the third season, she decided it was time to leave and was replaced by Usher, but made a reappearance for season 5. However, she has since decided to leave the show again, and Usher will take her spot on the coaching panel once more.
In August 2013, she released her new single and video, Let There Be Love, where she showed off her new slimmed down figure. The video included snaps of her and her family, including Rulter, and some of her celebrity friends, like Christina Milian and Nicole Richie. The 32-year-old made it clear that the song and video was a show to her fans that they mean the world to her. It was her way to thank them for their continued support and love.
According to a friend close to the singer, the two are very much in love and excited for their future together. Three years is a long time in celebrity lives, and it is clear that this was no rebound relationship for the Dirty singer. It was only a matter of time for Aguilera to get her Valentine’s Day proposal.
