Fresno Teenager Shot by Police Dies

Breaking News
A teenager died tonight in a Fresno California hospital. The teen was shot by a Fresno police officer earlier on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Lorena and Bardell avenues, at about 5:30 p.m., after a traffic stop.
Two members of Fresno’s Violent Crime Impact Team had stopped a BMW for making a U-Turn, and because the vehicle did not have license plates. Of the three occupants of the vehicle, two jumped out of the car and ran away. Officers who were on the scene said one of the two who ran away was armed. Police Chief Jerry Dyer said that the weapon appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun.

One of the suspects escaped, but the other was chased by an officer and apprehended in the Bigby Villa Apartments. After entering the property, the officer fired on the armed suspect. Dyer reported that it was unknown at this time why the officer fired.

Police did not identified the suspect, however they did say they have his gun, and it was loaded. There has not been a determination yet if the suspect’s gun had been fired. It is thought he was an 18 year old, who was involved with a local gang.
