How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Dad has its leading star, Greta Gerwig. The news comes three months after the spin-off to the eight-year show got the green light.
Very little has been shared about the new show, except that its version of Ted will be called Sally. Unlike Ted, she will be married at the start of the show, but will come to realize that she and her husband have nothing in common. She chooses to leave him and get help from her family and friends to move on and find true love.
However, the character is one of those that has never quite grown up. Sally has no idea what she wants to do with her life. The idea of telling the story about how she, eventually, met the father of her children will be the same as How I Met Your Mother.
Gerwig will not only star in the show; she is also expected to write some of the episodes and will be a producer on the set. She already has a history of co-writing features.
How I Met Your Mother is currently in the middle of its ninth and final season. Viewers have finally seen who “The Mother” is and will soon get to see the point where she and Ted meet, and the reactions of the couple. Despite taking nine seasons to get to this point, the show is the second-most popular for CBS, behind hit comedy The Big Bang Theory.
If How I Met Your Dad, which will star Greta Gerwig, is picked up by the network, the filming will move from its current Los Angeles location to New York, where the show is set. New York is the setting for How I Met Your Mother, but the only thing that connects the two will be MacLaren’s Bar, the favorite hangout spot for Ted, Marshall, Lily, Robin and Barney.
The makeup of the group is also unclear. It is unlikely that it will have the same chemistry as the group in How I Met Your Mother, but it will need something similar to keep fans of the show interested.
It is currently unclear whether the series finale of the veteran show will introduce any of the new characters or not. The usual method of bringing in a spin-off is to at least include a couple of the characters, especially the lead character. It is also unclear as to whether any of the original cast members will appear in the spin-off, like sometimes happens.
Fans of the original show will not be disappointed. The director is going to be Pat Fryman again. The idea also comes from the creators of the original series, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. Up All Night’s executive producer Emily Spivey will also be joining the team.
How I Met Your Mother will come to a close on March 31, with all five original cast members still a part of the show. The official date for the start of the spin-off, How I Met Your Dad, has not yet been given, and the team is still looking for other cast members. Only Gerwig has been confirmed to star in How I Met Your Dad, so far.
