He Shot Himself in the Face and Later Set Fire to His Building After Being Told to Stop Masturbating

A man who shot himself in the face with a shotgun has set fire to the apartment building where he lives because the building’s management told him to stop masturbating in front of open doors and windows. Kenneth Haskins, 58, became enraged when he was reprimanded for repeatedly performing self-pleasuring activities in full view of his neighbors.

He told police he had hatched a revenge plan to retaliate at the building’s management company by setting fire to his residence, which houses people who have disabilities as well as senior citizens. The fire put four people out of their homes, but Haskins apparently showed no remorse because he claims he was the one who was treated unfairly.

28 apartments had to be completely evacuated after the fire, which took firefighters almost a half an hour to extinguish. Haskins neighbors, who have been displeased to see Haskins performing lewd acts, say that he admitted it was he who began the fire. He spread flammable liquid all over his kitchen and bedroom before setting the rooms ablaze, causing massive damage to his apartment as well as water and/or smoke damage to four others.

Haskins has no prior criminal history, but now he has been charged with arson after telling police his intention was to burn the property to the ground in retaliation for being reprimanding for his masturbatory habits.

The charges against Haskins could bring a $10,000 fine and 30 years in prison. Police said that when they initially began investigating, the fire’s two distinct starting locations helped to confirm that the incident was caused by intentional arson rather than an accident of some kind.

While some of Haskins’ neighbors were well aware of his proclivity toward masturbating in front of his doors and windows in full view of the public, another neighbor said he was completely shocked to hear that Haskins had been arrested. “I thought no, not Kenny” said one longtime resident of the apartment complex.

Police, however, are very confident that Haskins set the fire intentionally. “The suspect that was arrested did happen to make some incriminating statements to some law enforcement officers that were on-scene, and they may have been overheard by some witnesses and residents of that apartment building,” said one officer on the scene. It was later revealed that Haskins came right out and told police his intentions and the motives for his actions.

Other neighbors say they are relieved Haskins is in jail and that the fact he is behind bars eases their minds. The Red Cross is assisting in finding temporary housing for the four people who were put out of their apartments because of the fire. No one was injured in the blaze.

Haskins suffers a facial disfigurement because he had previously shot himself in the face with a shotgun. Because he set fire to his building after being told to stop masturbating, he is being held without bail at the Orient Road jail awaiting trial.
