On Monday, February 17, the world will tune in to watch funnyman Jimmy Fallon take over The Tonight Show on NBC. That night marks the end of what has been the ongoing talk and changing of the late night guards for the past several years. As Jay Leno finally exits after more than 20 years on the job, Fallon moves from Late Night to the earlier slot, and fellow Saturday Night Live alum, Seth Meyers, takes his place entertaining the night owls. Jimmy announced his plans for starting the new show off right with U2 performing in show number one, and guests like Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and many more set for week one.
Jimmy Fallon rose to fame on SNL as various characters and as coanchor of the popular Weekend Update segment, at that time, with Tina Fey. He also appeared in films like Almost Famous and then starred in the film Fever Pitch with Drew Barrymore. Jimmy Fallon has become a household name, known for his inability to keep a straight face during a funny scene and as the guy who provides comfort and kindness to his guests on Late Night.
As he takes the reins to host The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon starts off strong with U2 christening the new stage. The show’s first musical guest will be followed by a great week of performances by Lady Gaga, Tim McGraw, and Arcade Fire. In the interview seat for the first time will be Jerry Seinfeld, Michelle Obama, Bradley Cooper, and Will Smith. In case that was not enough to take on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Fallon will also host two highly-successful fellow SNL alums: Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. Plus, what would Jimmy do without friend and silly comrade, Justin Timberlake in his first week on air creating parodies, new dance moves, and all around laughs for everyone involved?
As released by NBC, the first week of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will follow this schedule: on Monday, February 17th, Will Smith will take the guest seat and U2 will rock the stage. The next night, Jerry Seinfeld will talk with Fallon, Kristen Wiig will share her hilarity and wit, and then superstar Lady Gaga will perform. On Wedneday, Fallon and Bradley Cooper will exchange stories and Tim McGraw will provide melodic entertainment for the audience. Thursday, February 20 will feature First Lady Michelle Obama, the antics of Will Ferrell, and the musicality of Arcade Fire. To round out his first week, Jimmy will make magic with Justin Timberlake, both guest and musical performer.
Tune in on February 17, following the Olympic events of the night and any subsequent news coverage, to see what is new with Will Smith and to find out what song, or songs, U2 will play for the new Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Then continue watching all week for Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, the First Lady, and many more guests, plus some inevitable surprises, and of course, the musical entertainment of The Roots. The show’s regular airtime is 11:35pm EST every week night on NBC. And now, a preview of what may happen on February 21.
