The flame might have fizzled out for lovebirds Katy Perry and John Mayer. The Dark Horse singer has allegedly split from Mayer. The couple went public with their romance in the summer of 2012. The singers are known for their tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship. The duo took a break in the fall of 2012 only to get back together a short time after.
Sources close to the couple say Perry’s work schedule was one of the reasons why the two decided to breakup. “It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course this happens all the time, I can’t keep track anymore. But for now they are done,” an insider said.
Everything seemed to be going well for the couple up until a few weeks ago. Perry and Mayer even recorded a song and video together titled, Who You Love for Mayer’s most recent album, Paradise Valley. The track was released last December as the third single. Rumors even began to swirl around about a possible engagement after the two were seen together at a family outing that included Perry’s parents. She was spotted wearing what seemed to be an engagement ring over Valentine’s Day weekend. She also showed off the same rock on the red carpet at the Elle Style Awards in London Feb. 18.
When asked about future wedding plans, Perry explained to GQ that she is only interested in dating, and not pushing for any type of serious commitment anytime soon. “I’m just having a wonderful experience with a wonderful guy. There’s no rush,” she said.
Before dating the 36-year-old singer, Perry considered herself a fan of his. She said he was incredibly talented, gifted and she enjoyed being a part of anything he chose to do.
After the alleged split between Katy Perry and John Mayer, a moving truck was spotted outside of the home they share together. Perry has been spending a lot of time on her own while promoting her upcoming Prismatic tour. Recently, she was booed off the runway at Milan Fashion Week for arriving late. Mayer’s own tour proved to test the stability of their relationship. “They’ve had rough patches, but this may be for good,” a source said.
Mayer was the first serious relationship since Perry’s divorce from Russell Brand in late 2011. The Teenage Dream singer met Brand when she filmed a cameo appearance for the film, Get Him to the Greek. They married Oct. 23, 2010; 14 months later, the comedian and actor ended the marriage via text message.
Perry’s third headlining tour begins May 7. Prismatic will start at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland with opening act, Icona Pop. The second leg of the tour will take place in the United States and Canada. More openers include Tegan and Sara, Becky G, Capital Cities and Kacey Musgraves. The final stops on the tour being Nov. 2014 in Oceania. The alleged split between Perry and Mayer has yet to be confirmed by their reps.
