Former NBA superstar Lamar Odom has reportedly told US Weekly that no matter what, Khloe Kardashian will “always” be his wife and that he is still in love with her. It appears that Odom is holding out hope that he and his estranged wife may find a way to reconcile, despite the fact that Kardashian filed for divorce at the end of 2013. He says that he doesn’t know at this point if the divorce will go through.
The 34-year-old Odom also said that marrying, and being married to, the 29-year-old reality starlet was one of the best things he had ever experienced in his life. He expressed some measure of regret and says that he knows he was not mistake-free throughout the course of their rocky four-year marriage, but also says he would not go back and do anything differently and that he has learned from the experience. His most recent statements about the celebrity couple’s split are consistent with previous reports that Odom was saddened by the filing for divorce and disappointed that he had been unable to save the marriage.
Odom does not express any regret about the couple’s participation in the reality program Khloe & Lamar, but did say that he thinks that being on television affected the public’s perception of him. He discussed the fact that viewers of the program, or of Youtube videos might have a certain idea of what he is like or what his intentions were, but that they don’t really have any idea. The same goes for any preconceived notions that the public may have about what he is like just because he is a professional basketball player as well.
Kardashian filed for divorce just before Christmas in December, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The filing came after many months of public rumors about the couple’s struggles, in particular about Odom’s alleged battles with alcohol and drug addiction and supposed infidelity.
While the basketball star has never come out and admitted to struggling with drugs and alcohol, he was arrested and charged with DUI last summer. Sources at the time of the filing said it was a video released featuring Odom not only apparently rapping about his infidelity, but also drunk while doing so that finally drove Kardashian to file for divorce and start the process of moving on from the troubled relationship. It has also been reported that Kardashian would like to have children but did not wish to do so with Odom due to his alleged addiction issues.
For now, it seems that Odom is investing his time in his basketball career. No longer with the NBA, the athlete is now signed on to play with a professional basketball team in Spain known as Baskonia or Laboral Kutxa. He told media outlets at a recent press conference that he is working hard to get a spot back on the court, but that he also knows that he needs to be patient with himself because he has been out of the game for awhile.
Time will tell whether his love for basketball will be all that there is in Odom’s life, or if his ongoing love for the woman who will “always” be his wife, Khloe Kardashian, may be enough to bring her back around.
