Oscar Pistorius Surfed Porn Before Fatal Shooting Claim

Oscar Pistorius surfed pornA leading South African Sunday newspaper claims Oscar Pistorius surfed porn shortly before he shot his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp dead last year. The story that features on the front page of today’s Sunday Times states that data on the Olympian blade runner’s cellphone contradicts his claim that he had a loving relationship with Reeva. This supports the prosecution’s case in the trial (due to start on March 3) that the couple were arguing before the fatal shooting on Valentine’s Day 2013.

The sensational front-page story that draws attention to “Oscar’s dirty secret” has attracted mega advertising in the form of a complete wrap-around financed by a multi-market national South African store that is owned by Walmart. Only the top half of the front page of the wraparound carries the story; the rest is advertising. Additionally, page one of the newspaper and a portion of page two are dedicated to stories about the trial. The main story covers Oscar’s alleged porn surfing, while the other looks at the trauma Reeva’s parents have been through. The newspaper also discusses the media bid to broadcast the trial live.

Oscar Pistorius Surfed Porn Sites

With the eyes of the world already well focused on the upcoming trial of the legendary blade-runner Oscar Pistorius, claims that he was surfing porn sites just before he shot and killed his beautiful girlfriend on Valentine’s Day last year are regenerating local interest in what has been dubbed “the criminal trial of the century.” The information that has been quoted is said to have been extracted from one of his cellular phones that was found at the crime scene. There is also additional information about second-hand car websites that he is understood to have been surfing around the same time.

Evidence given by Pistorius during his bail hearing last year includes his claim that he and Reeva were “deeply in love” and in his bedroom together at about 11 pm that night. According to the new “evidence”, this is the same time that Oscar Pistorius surfed porn sites shortly before the fatal shooting.

Information Leaked to the Media

Earlier this week there were claims that the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) case had been leaked to the media, and there was some debate about whether the prosecution or defense stood to benefit from “the leak.” NPA spokesperson, Nathi Mncube was adamant that information had not been leaked by the prosecuting body, but he would not be drawn into speculating whether either side would benefit from the leak. An unnamed lawyer quoted in the Sunday Times article says both sides could easily have benefited from leaking the information.

The leaked documents are said to have stated, amongst other things, that Pistorius told security guards at his home that everything was “fine” after they reported hearing sounds of gunfire coming from his house on the night that Reeva Steenkamp was murdered. On the other hand, these documents also back up Pistorius’s claims that he was walking on his stumps rather than wearing his prosthetic legs when he shot through the locked bathroom door killing Reeva. This, say media reports, could prove that the murder was not premeditated.

Meanwhile there are reports that Pistorius has been holidaying in Knysna on the idyllic Garden Route while Reeva’s 69-year-old father suffered a stroke that nearly killed him. Barry Steenkamp is now at home in Port Elizabeth, but will be in court on March 3 with his wife and other members of Reeva’s family. This news was released at about the same time as Pistorius tweeted on Valentine’s Day 2014 that he still loved the woman he killed in “the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved” Reeva Steenkamp.

Live Broadcast Decision Pending

As media representatives from all over the world make plans to cover the Oscar Pistorius court case, the question of whether it will be broadcast live to the world at the same time is still pending. While the NPA has stated in court that there is no point in fighting the application brought by print media houses (MultiChoice, eNCA and Eyewitness News) to broadcast the trial live, Judge Dunstan Mlambo will only deliver his judgment on Tuesday.

The proposal is that unmanned, high-definition, remote-controlled cameras will be used at the trial that will detail everything about the fatal shooting. While the parents of Reeva Steenkamp have said that they cannot see how a live broadcast would affect the final verdict, her mother, June has been quoted as saying it does seem like “a step too far.” It still remains to be seen what she will say if indeed the claim Oscar Pistorius surfed porn before he killed her daughter is true.
