Super Bowl
Super Bowl is Sunday and officials across the country are asking people who drink during the celebration to please be sure and appoint a designated driver. The designated driver will be required if the people who are drinking alcohol while they party want to avoid a ticket. Checkpoints will be set up across the country.

Football fans are being asked to have a plan in place before the Super Bowl Sunday festivities begin. According to the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD), Super Bowl Sunday is one of the top worst times during the year for deaths caused by drivers who are drunk.

Bronco and Seahawk fans across the nation will be watching the event. Football fans in general will be gathering together in a multitude of venues to see who will emerge victoriously in one of the most awaited games of the season.

Law enforcement officials nationwide are preparing by reminding people of the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Their warnings for Super Bowl Sunday are clear. If a person is drunk, plans to drink or has had been drinking, a designated driver is required. This should be the person that holds on to the keys.

There are some guidelines and helpful tips that police are hoping people adhere to. No matter where the game is being watched, one of the suggestions is to designate a driver well in advance of the start of the party. Another tip is that if there is not a driver available, calling a cab would be a smart thing to do.

Some cities have drivers that volunteer to help during special events. The services usually require a small fee. Most websites substantiate the fee by reminding people of the cost of getting pulled over while drunk driving. They also remind people it is a safer option than putting themselves and other community members at risk. It could actually save lives.

Being a designated driver does have its rewards. Sometimes it can even come with a bonus reward. In Denver, Colorado, this year a designated driver has won an all expense paid trip to the Super Bowl. Her name is Karin Cambria.

The contest was The Responsibility Has Its Rewards Sweepstakes. It is part of the Broncos designated driver program. Other teams in the league participate in the program as well. The sign up was at the stadium. People who signed up were required to pledge to be a designated driver for friends or family members that were going to be drinking at the game.

Karin Cambria took a vow that she would make sure that anyone she attended the game with would make it back home safely. She has been doing this for 15 seasons and has only missed one Bronco home game. Ms. Cambria was notified through an email that she had won shortly after the Broncos won the AFC Championship title.

The Seattle Seahawks are one of the teams that participate in the designated driver program. Their winner this year will be traveling to the Super Bowl also. The winner is going with expenses paid as well.

Drinking on Super Bowl Sunday goes together with football for some of the fans. Remembering to assign a designated driver will be required in order to stay safe while out on the roadways. Law enforcement officials are getting the word out now in order to help people be prepared and possibly save lives in the process.
