According to a report released by Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre on Sunday afternoon, Cyclone Hellen is heading for Madagascar, and has rapidly intensified. The cyclone has been reaching wind speeds as high as over 230 km an hour, a Category 4 hurricane. A rapid intensification has today occurred, with the winds increasing dramatically by over 30 knots in 24 hours. Hellen is currently moving over the Indian Ocean, and is forecast to sweep through the NW of Madagascar on Monday affecting Boeny and Melaka. Areas to the east of the cyclones storm will also be at higher risk of a dangerous storm surge. It is then expected to turn West, towards mainland Africa, but will be much weaker by that point.
