Dicaprio Will Have a Statue

DiCaprio may finally have a statue this awards season. The 4 time Academy Award nominee is also a 4 time Academy Award loser. There is now a fan frenzy erupting with people creating images and sketches in support of Leonardo DiCaprio being given an Academy Award. This outcry may not have gotten him the Oscar, but it may get his 3rd MTV Movie Award.

DiCaprio’s first Academy Award nomination was at the age of 19. He was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of Johnny Depp’s mentally handicapped younger brother in the film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. His second Academy awards nomination was for his role in Martin Scorcese’s The Aviator. DiCaprio portrayed the role of Howard Hughes, an aviator, director, philanthropist and one of the richest people in the world. He lost the Oscar to Jamie Fox for his portrayal of soul singer Ray Charles. DiCaprio did go on to win MTV’s Golden Popcorn for his performance of Hughes. His third Academy Award nomination was for Blood Diamond in which he portrayed a Rhodesian diamond smuggler. That year he lost out to Forrest Whitaker for his performance in The Last King of Scotland. Whitaker portrayed Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. And now he has once again lost the Academy for his portrayal of Jordan Ross Belfort, a broker who conned people out of more than $200 million while living the full exorbitant life. Mathew McConaghey took the Oscar for his portrayal of Ron Woodroof, an AID’s patient who illegally smuggled AIDs medication into the United States in the late 1980’s.

MTV on the other hand has garnished him with 2 awards and 6 nominations. He has won the Golden Popcorn for his performances in Titanic, and The Aviator. His role on the Wolf of Wall Street resonates with the younger generation that still watch MTV. The award show is much shorter than the Academy Awards and it is also extremely laid pack. Celebrities show up in ‘look at me’ fashions, they curse, perform sexually suggestive numbers, and win awards for categories such as ‘best kiss.’ The Wolf of Wall Street encompasses sex, and drugs like no other film this year, which should make it a fan favorite for MTV viewers. And will garner DiCaprio with the Golden Popcorn statue.

DiCaprio is known as a very private, yet extremely dedicated actor who pushes the boundaries of the places he can go as an actor. He submerses himself wholeheartedly into conflicted ill-fated characters. The public’s understanding of his amazing and unrecognized talent has led to an internet campaign titled ‘Poor Leo.’ It all began after McConaghey received the Oscar, and DiCaprio received his 4th Academy award loss. ‘Poor Leo’ began trending on Twitter, soon after fans joined in and began posting memes poking fun at what many believe is just another snub to DiCaprio, many of these included DiCaprio chasing the Oscar, as well as of DiCaprio using binoculars and other search methods. While others recreated dialogue from his past film scenes that showed his character in an emotional state, or absolutely losing it. #GiveLeoAnOscar also began trending soon after. There is no doubt that with the public outcry DiCaprio will have a statue in the shape of popcorn.
