The iconic emblem of Automotive styling, the Ford Mustang, celebrates its 50th anniversary with a new model being introduced in 2015. The version of the Ford Mustang is a completely new design, that still resembles the original version that was introduced 5 decades ago, but it may be the most advanced version of the vehicle that has ever been produced.
The designers say that it is the most aerodynamic of all of the Mustang models, and a lot of time has been spent on aerodynamics because it results in better fuel economy, better performance and less noise from quieter rides.
The Mustang’s 50th birthday is being celebrated with a huge splash, as more boomers may find comfort in the nostalgia in recall of what was conceived as the good old days. Futurist Sheryl Connelly, who works with the Ford Motor Company, studies consumer behaviors and habits in order to discern trends, and her top trends prediction for 2014 indicate that consumers will become more connected to service providers and retailers. She explains the subtle difference between macro and micro trends and uses the styling of the Ford Mustang as a macro trend that continues to endure.
Although there has been several version of the classic muscle car, which was originally designed as a convertible, the latest iteration of the convertible has been designed with new mechanism that allows it to open twice as fast as current models.
As the Mustang celebrates 50, owners can be expected to have celebrations around the country, and some of the original units from the first year of manufacture will be on display. Next month, enthusiasts from 16 countries, are expected to assemble in the US for celebration of the 50th anniversary. Groups are expected from both North and South America, Australia, Europe, and as far away as New Zealand, carrying flags of their home countries. Due to the size of the contingents, celebrations will be held in two venues between April 16 – April 20.
The organizers include the Ford Motor Company, and the Mustang Club of America, who will host celebrations simultaneously in North Carolina, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and at the Motor Speedway in Las Vegas.
The Ford Mustang has become an icon of US culture, but the celebration will be international in scope, and is expected that owners from outside of the US will be shipping their cars to take part in the event, which is expected to be an unforgettable experience. The celebrations are open to all, and not MCA members and Mustang owners.
According to Ron Bramlett, who is the executive director of the 50th anniversary celebrations, the MCA has also organized what are called Pony Drives, where Mustang owners can travel in organized groups to certain venues. Residents in both Las Vegas and North Carolina, and even in some of the nearby regions can expect to see caravans of several versions of the classic car, as owners drive to and from events.
The 2015 model will also be on exhibit at both locations, so that foreign visitors can see it personally. The immense popularity of the Ford Mustang which has sold more than nine million units, since the introduction, has encouraged Ford to offer the car for sale around the world, and it is with more than coincidence that is is offered at the same time that the Ford Mustang celebrates 50.
