Former Governor of Florida, Reubin Askew, has died, according to a recent report. Askew was perhaps most known for leading the state through notable progress in terms of integration back in the 1970s. The former governor passed away Early Thursday at the age of 85.
Askew is reported to have died in the presence of his family at the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, according to a former aide, Ron Sachs.
A liberal on racial matters, Askew is known for changes of Florida’s tax laws, environmental protection, open government, ethic legislation as well as modifications of governmental agencies and courts during a time of social change nationwide.
