Fox Renews Hit Shows Including ‘New Girl’

New Girl

FOX television made clear their plans to keep several popular shows on the network earlier this week. Fox announced that they have renewed their hit comedy series New Girl for the 2014-2015 season along with the Golden Globe winning Brooklyn Nine-NineThe Mindy Project, and the psychological thriller The Following. The announcements came curiosity of Fox’s Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly and their Chief Operating Officer, Joe Earley on Friday March 7th. The four shows make up a large part of Fox’s successful scripted television line-up.

The hit Fox show New Girl was renewed for its forth season with the pick-up. The comedy series stars Zooey Deschanel as Jess, a bubbly offbeat grade school teacher. After Jess catches her boyfriend with another woman, she moves into a loft with three single guys that she’s never met before. Nick is a cynical law school dropout now working as a bartender who’d much rather be left alone than bothered with anything. Schmidt is a successful businessman who cannot get a grip on his personal life while Winston just doesn’t know what to do but really needs to win at whatever it is. With a little help from her lifelong best friend Cece, Jess journeys through the highs and lows of romance and friendship in the modern world. And although the boys find her behaviour a little unusual at first, they soon become friends and support each other the best way that they can – most of the time.

Along with New Girl, Fox also renewed the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a second season. The comedy show stars Golden Globe winner Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta, a loose and easy-going yet shockingly talented detective. Under the watch of his new precinct captain played by Andre Braugher, Jake Peralta and a group of diverse detectives get into hijinks as they solve cases at the edge of New York City. Brooklyn Nine-Nine won two Golden Globe awards this past year for best comedy or musical television series while Andy Samberg won for best performance by an actor in a comedy or musical. The show was created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur of Parks And Recreation fame.

The Mindy Project has been renewed for its third season. Created and written by The Office’s Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project features Kaling as a OB/GYN trying to maintain a handle on her extremely complicated personal and professional lives while surrounded by a cast of quirky co-workers in a small office. The series has featured many of Mindy Kaling’s cast members from The Office since airing including The Hangover’s Ed Helms and B.J. Novak, who played Kaling’s on-screen on-again-off-again boyfriend Ryan on the hit NBC series.

The final hit show that Fox announced a renewal for is the psychological thriller series The Following starring Kevin Bacon, known for roles in successful films like Footloose, Mystic River, Appolo 13 and  X-Men: First Class amongst more than a dozen others. The Following was created by Kevin Williamson. Williamson is also responsible for writing three of the four entries in the Scream horror film franchise as well as the CW hit show The Vampire Diaries. The series is a deadly game of cat and mouse between a former FBI agent played by Kevin Bacon and an heinous serial killer played by James Purefoy of the HBO show Rome. The Following will enter its second season with the renewal.

With the renewal of four of their hit television shows including New Girl, Fox further cements their scripted line-up to fill in the gaps around their mega successful reality shows American Idol and The X Factor.
