Peter Dinklage continues to be busy when he is not looking over his shoulder for who might deceive him next. Game Of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage has just signed onto star with Adam Sandler in the up-coming comedy Pixels. The film is set to be directed by Chris Columbus and is an adaptation of a popular video game inspired short film by Patrick Jean.
Pixels is said to be a Ghostbusters inspired action comedy where dozens of characters have climbed out of a video game to cause chaos in throughout New York City. Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison is in charge of the big screen adaptation. Pixels with Adam Sandler and Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is based upon the short film by Patrick Jean where video game characters from the 1980s attacked New York City. The script is being written by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling. Herlihy has scripted exclusively Adam Sandler comedies throughout his career including some of the actor’s most popular hits such as Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy and Mr. Deeds. Dowling meanwhile contributed to Sandler’s Just Go With It starring Jennifer Aniston as well as the Paul Rudd, Sean William Scott comedy Role Models.
Dinklage has appeared in quite a number of films in addition to playing the fan favourite and Golden Globe winning role of Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s immensely popular Game Of Thrones series. The actor has been getting rave reviews for his performance in this year’s Sundance hit Low Down with fellow Game Of Thrones cast member Lena Headey. Dinklage will next be seen in this summer’s highly anticipated X-Men: Days Of Future Past. The actor first garnered critical acclaim for his lead performance in the 2003 indie film The Station Agent.
Chris Columbus will be in the director’s chair for Pixels. Columbus is best known for kicking off the Harry Potter series, directing both the first and second instalments of the billion dollar film franchise. Aside from the Potter series, Columbus has directed several massively successful feature films including Mrs. Doubtfire, the big screen adaptation of Rent as well as Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. The filmmaker’s last big screen feature was Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Pixels has all the makings of another hit for Adam Sandler. The comedian has been one of the most consistent box office earners since leaving Saturday Night Live and starring in films as a leading man. Sandler was last seen in Grown-Ups 2 which grossed over $240 million worldwide. Up next, Drew Barrymore will star alongside the funny man for the third time in the comedy Blended. The film schedule for release this May has Barrymore and Sandler playing a man and woman who after suffering through a horrible blind date find themselves randomly trapped together at a resort meant for families.
Kevin James and Frozen’s Josh Gad are also said to be along for the adventure in Pixels with Game Of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage and Adam Sandler. The action comedy is currently scheduled to arrive sometime in 2016.
