Judge Joe Brown, well-known television court judge, was arrested in Memphis for contempt of court. He is being held without bail due to his erratic behavior in the court room. The former Shelby County Criminal Court Judge showed up to represent a client in a child support case. When court workers told Brown there was no record of the case in question he went off.
Reportedly Brown lost control and became verbally abusive. One witness said there was almost a riot in the court room inspired by Brown’s behavior. It is not known at this time why this upset the famed judge so much that he could not calm down.
Harold Horne, Juvenile Court Magistrate, repeatedly asked Brown to calm down but he refused. Initially Brown was given two days in jail for contempt of court. This was increased by another three days because he continued yelling as they were removing him from the court room.
Brown, whose show was cancelled last year, is being housed in a cell by himself for safety reasons. He was denied bail and will remain jailed for a minimum of five days.
Although Judge Joe Brown’s television show was cancelled last year he is currently running for District Attorney in Shelby County.
