Leonardo DiCaprio Loses Out on Oscar Again

Leonardo DiCaprioIt seems to be a bad record on repeat as Leonardo DiCaprio loses out on an Oscar again. However, once again he proved to be a professional by congratulating the winner, while his fans took to Twitter to express their anger.

The Great Gatsby star has been nominated for the prestigious award four times in the past. This most recent one was for Best Actor for his performance as Jason Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, a part that he has wanted to play for many years. It seemed like it was the perfect script, the perfect role and the perfect timing for the 39-year-old, but he lost out to Matthew McConaughy. Instead of showing the tears and disappointment on camera, he congratulated the winner with a kiss.

It was just last month that DiCaprio lost out on the Best Actor BAFTA award when Chiwetel Ejifor took it for 12 Years a Slave. During that moment, the 39-year-old actor blew a kiss at the camera to hide the disappointment and then stood to applaud Ejifor for the amazing credit.

The Titanic actor has lost out on Oscars four times now, and three have been for Best Actor. The first two were for The Aviator and Blood Diamond. Instead of receiving it for Blood Diamond, Forest Whitaker received it for his portrayal of The Last King of Scotlan, Idi Amin. The first nomination he ever received was for Best Supporting Actor for the movie What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, where he played Johnny Depp’s younger, mentally handicapped brother. Tommy Lee Jones took that award home instead.

DiCaprio lost out on the Oscar again against McConaughy’s performance in Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughy portrayed a homophobic man who finds out that he has AIDS, and goes onto develop a treatment for the disease. Co-star Jared Leto took home the award for Best Supporting Actor. This is the fourth time that a duo from the same film has taken home both of these prestigious awards.

Many fans took to Twitter to express just how angry they were for DiCaprio being robbed of the award again. “Poor Leo” started trending, as people shared various photos that they had put together. One of the photos was a montage of various roles the actor has had where he has been in tears. Some of the photos including stills from Titanic, Romeo and Juliet and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

There have been many questioning how such a great actor has been overlooked so many times for the Best Actor award. One of the rumors is that he was too good in the role as The Wolf of Wall Street Belfort. Too many people were left uncomfortable after showing that the gangster-like man never really received his comeuppance. However, many film critics continue to believe that DiCaprio’s portrayal of Belfort is the best of his whole career.

It is now another year of movie awards over, and the Basketball Diaries star has gone home empty-handed at each one. There is still time in his acting career. There are no current movies upcoming with him in a lead acting role, but his next one judging by his normal pattern will likely be next year. Hopefully then DiCaprio will be nominated for Best Actor and will not lose out again.
