Miley Cyrus’ giant tongue slide took out construction worker Charles Nicholas Sarris, who has filed a lawsuit against supply company ShowFx. The tongue’s construction equipment gave out and Sarris fell on the job and was injured by both the equipment and tools. The inflatable slide, now a personal symbol for her, lolls from her mouth as her face is projected on stage.
The slide is used by Cyrus to enter during her Bangerz Tour. He is seeking damages and claims that ShowFx did not provide any proper warnings. Even Katy Perry’s concern about Miley Cyrus’ tongue did not cover the injuries that could be inflicted. The two have appeared on good terms in past interactions. During Adore You, “I just walked up to her to give her like a friendly girly kiss, you know, as girls do,” Perry said. But she pulled away when Cyrus attempted a less “friendly girly” kiss.
“That tongue is so infamous!” She said, and pointed out she had no idea where it had been. Cyrus did not take her comment lightly and sent a jab over Twitter mentioning the tongue of Perry’s “EX BOO.” After bouncing from hot and then cold, Cyrus tweeted her once more including a sketch of them kissing and insisting that Perry deny that she did not “lurvvvvv it.” The two have since exchanged tweets and after bouncing from hot to cold, and appear back on good terms.
Sarris is not the first injured by Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz tour; however the previous time did not lead to a lawsuit or involve the performer’s tongue slide. Sky Ferreira, on Feb. 20, fell and sliced her leg open. She was able to finish the set, apparently not noticing her injury. Once she finished she was transferred to a hospital to receive 60 stitches.
Reviews of the concert, tongue and all, have been positive to date. The show, of course, opens with her signature tongue, but mostly the tour focuses on colors, bright wardrobe, and overall the strong imagery. Party in the USA brought an explosion of red, white, and blue streamers, and the rest of the performance continued with color driven themes. Surprisingly, it relies less on shock tactics than a fan might expect after her VMA performance. Instead, she is reported as being demure during her interactions between songs. Her background dancers are highly spoken of, adding the much needed “twerking” as Cyrus shows off her voice on stage. Dolly Parton’s Jolene is belted out by Cyrus and it is reported that she has the wit and stage presence to match.
The good ratings are coming as fast she can perform. Miley Cyrus’ giant tongue slide has remained, and the worker’s lawsuit should not affect the Bangerz tour as it continues making stops. The most recent location was San Antonio, Texas on Saturday. Mitchel Musso joined Cyrus backstage and the two Hannah Montana stars had a small cast reunion. She had tweeted her concern that she had been stood up, but then included a selfie featuring the two of them together.
