Minnesota Food Company Recalling Some Products Due to Listeria Fears

A food business in Minnesota is recalling some of its cheese, salsa, peanut butter and various spreads that are distributed all over the United States after specialists found that several samples of the different food products contained the bacteria listeria. So far the Minnesota Department of Agriculture had stated there had not been any reports of food poisoning illness and that the company, Parkers Farms, which is located in the town of Coon Rapids, Minnesota is cooperating in the investigation.

The company has announced a public and also voluntary recall of numerous products with several different sell-by times. Consumers who purchased these items are urged to take them back to the store or put them in the trash. The various food items were sent out nationwide and went under the names of Parkers, Happy Farms, Say Cheez, Amish Classic, Parkers Farm, Bucky Badger, Hy-Top, Win Schuler and Central Markets labels.

The food products were available for purchase at several different stores such as Wal-Mart, Costco, ALDI, Target, Byerly’s, Nash Finch, Hy-Vee, Whole Foods, Cub, Lunds, Price Chopper, Brookshire, and Rainbow stores.

Listeria is a bacteria that is particularly hazardous to newborns, pregnant women and anyone who has a weakened immune system. It seldom causes any type of severe illness in people who are healthy and can be cured with antibiotics. Listeria’s symptoms include diarrhea, muscle aches, nausea and fever.

A list of recalled food items include: 16 ounce size Parkers brand peanut butter in a square tub with a snap on lid. This includes the varieties of crunchy, creamy, honey crunchy and honey creamy all with sell by dates of 3/20/2015; 34 ounce Parkers brand peanut butter in a round tub with snap on lid. This includes crunchy and creamy varieties with sell by dates of 3/20/2015; 12 ounce Parkers brand spread in both square and round tubs with snap on lids. It includes both pimento and jalapeño flavors that have sell by dates of 9/20/2014.

Also 8 ounce and 16 ounce Parkers brand cold cheese in plastic container tubs with snap on lids They include bacon, sharp cheddar, onion, smoked cheddar, port wine Swiss almond, garlic horseradish, and Swiss & cheddar varieties that have sell by dates of 3/20/2015; 16 ounce Parkers brand salsa in round tubs with snap on lids. They include mild, garlic, hot and fire-roasted varieties that have sell by dates of 7/20/2014.

Also 10 ounce Parkers brand cheese balls and logs in plastic overwrap which include port wine, ranch, sharp cheddar and smokey bacon varieties that have sell by dates of 3/20/2015; 10 ounce Happy Farms cheese balls in plastic overwrap which include port wine and sharp cheddar that have a sell by date of 3/20/2015; 16 ounce Happy Farms cold cheese in round container tubs with snap on lids. They include port wine and sharp cheddar with a sell by date of 3/20/2015; 8 ounce Central Markets cold cheese in round container tubs with snap on lids. They include port wine, sharp cheddar, horseradish, and Swiss almond varieties with sell by dates of 3/20/2015.

Also both 12 ounce and 20 ounce of Hy-Top cheese spread in round container tubs with snap on lids. They include jalapeño and pimento varieties with sell by dates of 9/20/2014; 8 ounce Amish Classic cold cheese in round container tubs with snap on lids. They include port wine, sharp cheddar, port wine, and Swiss almond varieties with sell by dates of 3/20/2015; 14 ounce Say Cheez brand beer cheese in round container tubs with snap on lids. They include both hot and regular varieties with sell by dates of 3/20/2015; 10 ounce Win Schuler original variety cheese balls or logs in plastic wrap with sell by dates of 3/20/2015.

Also 8 ounce, and 12 ounce, and 14 ounce varieties of Bucky Badger brand of cheese spread in tub with the snap on lids. They include port wine, garlic, cheddar, horseradish, jalapeño, bacon and Swiss almond varieties that have sell by dates of 3/20/2015; and five pound food service products which include cold cheese foods, cheese spreads and peanut butter all with sell by dates of 3/20/2015.

As was mentioned above, the products were sent all over the United States under the names The products are distributed nationwide under the food names of Parkers, Happy Farms, Say Cheez, Amish Classic, Parkers Farm, Bucky Badger, Hy-Top, Win Schuler and Central Markets food labels. The food items were sold at numerous retail stores that include but are not limited to Wal-Mart, Costco, ALDI, Target, Byerly’s, Nash Finch, Hy-Vee, Whole Foods, Cub, Lunds, Price Chopper, Brookshire, and Rainbow stores.
