At an NHL trade deadline that is quickly become a seller’s market for goaltenders, the biggest bombshell dropped thus far is the Vancouver Canucks trading long-time goaltender, Roberto Luongo, to the Florida Panthers. Luongo has expressed his unhappiness within the organization since last year, when he was relegated to being a backup goaltender behind Cory Schneider. The issue was considered all but resolved when the Canucks traded Schneider to the New Jersey Devils in the offseason, but the play of young goaltender, Eddie Lack, again created a tense situation for the Vancouver organization. In “do or die” time, the Canucks pulled the trigger on a deal that traded Roberto Luongo to the Florida for a deal involving young goaltending prospect, Jacob Markstrom.
More details will be posted when they become available.
