The Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) show is on tonight (CBS), broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. ET (delayed PT) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada — a gambling town, no doubt — so here are some predictions of who will win some of the awards that will be presented. One sure bet is that it will be a night when the country music stars of today come out and shine. Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan will be co-hosting the awards show.
David Nail, Carrie Underwood, George Strait, and Taylor Swift have been added to the list of presenters for the 49th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. They will be joining previously announced presenters like Darius Rucker, Thea Andrews, Guy Fieri, Garth Brooks, Jewel, LL COOL J, Nancy O’Dell, Olivia Munn, Clay Walker, Trisha Yearwood, Chris O’Donnell, and Florida Georgia Line.
Musical acts on Sunday will include Dierks Bentley with Sheryl Crow, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Justin Moore,Hunter Hayes, Luke Bryan, Lee Brice, Toby Keith, George Strait, Brett Eldredge, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Kip Moore, Darius Rucker, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Shakira, Lady Antebellum with legendary musician Stevie Nicks and Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line, and The Band Perry.
Tim McGraw and Miranda Lambert lead in the number of categories they’ve been nominated in, at seven each. Keith Urban has been nominated in six different categories. How many awards will these leaders in nominations win on sunday night on CBS?
While many people are predicting that George Strait will walk away with the Academy of Country Music Awards award for Entertainer of the Year, all of the awards are determined by voters at home. That means that it’s a popularity contest, and the winners will be determined by the numbers of fans for each performer who take the time out of their busy lives to vote.
Strait has some stiff competition from the other nominees, like Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Blake’s wife Miranda Lambert, and Taylor Swift. They all have large fan bases, and any of them could win this award. Miranda Lambert has 15 ACM trophies so far. Prediction: the winner will be Luke Bryan, who also won this award last year.
Another of the awards that will be presented on the Academy of Country Music Awards that both Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan have been nominated for is the one for Male Vocalist of the Year, along with Lee Brice, Jason aldean, and Keith Urban, who has 6 nominations this year. Prediction: The winner will be Blake Shelton.
Yet another award that both Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan are up for on the Academy of Country Music Awards show is for Album of the Year. “Based on a True Story,” is Blake Shelton’s album, and Luke Bryan’s album is “Crash My Party.”
They’ll be going up against Kacey Musgraves’ Grammy Award-winning album “Same Trailer Different Park,” Florida Georgia Line’s “Here’s to the Good Times,” and Tim McGraw’s “Two Lanes of Freedom.” Prediction: The Album of the Year winner will be Luke Bryan’s “Crash My Party.”
The Academy of Country Music Awards has many other categories and awards which will be hotly contested. The award for Female Vocalist of the Year is one of these, with Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow and Carrie Underwood all up for this honor. Prediction: Taylor Swift will win this award, if her fan base has been sufficiently mobilized.
There are five duos that have been nominated for the Academy of Country Music Awards Vocal Duo of the Year award. They are Big & Rich, Dan and Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Love and Theft, and Thompson Square. Prediction: Florida Georgia Line will be the winning duo.
In the category of Vocal Group of the Year, five groups have been nominated. They are the Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, The Band Perry, and the Zac Brown Band. Prediction: The winning group will be the Zac Brown Band.
The Academy of Country Music Awards Single Record of the Year award has five acts nominated for this award. They are Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart (co-written by Kacey Musgraves),” Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise,” Tim McGraw (feat. Taylor Swift & Keith Urban) and his song, “Highway Don’t Care,” Lee Brice’s “I Drive Your Truck,” and Darius Rucker (Feat. Lady Antebellum) and “Wagon Wheel.” Prediction: The winning song will be “Mama’s Broken Heart,” by Miranda Lambert.
And Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart,” co-written by Musgraves, is up for single record and song of the year.
Another Academy of Country Music Awards category that will be highly anticipated will be who wins the award for Song of the Year. Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart” is also nominated for this award, along with “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” sung by Gary Allan and written by Gary Allan, Hillary Lindsey, and Matthew Warren; “I Drive Your Truck” sung by Lee Brice and written by Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, and Jimmy Yeary; “Mine Would Be You,” sung by Blake Shelton and written by Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, and Deric Ruttan; and “Wagon Wheel,” sung by Darius Rucker and written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor. Prediction: “Mine Would Be You,” will win this award.
The Academy of Country Music Awards Video of the Year award has six videos nominated in this category. They are “Better Dig Two” by The Band Perry; “Blowin’ Smoke,” by Kacey Musgraves; “Highway Don’t Care,” by Tim McGraw (feat. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban); “I Drive Your Truck,” by Lee Brice; “Mama’s Broken Heart,” by Miranda Lambert; and “Two Black Cadillacs,” by Carrie Underwood.
