Academy of Country Music Awards 2014 Winners (Review)

The Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS Sunday night brought out the stars at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, where it was broadcast live. It was hosted, as it was last year, by two of country music’s biggest stars: Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. Who were the winners and who were the losers among those who were nominated? Read on, and you will find out!

The 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards show was a great show and celebration of country music, as always, though it took around an hour until the first award was actually presented. That’s because musical performances and comedy bits tooks up the beginning of the show.

The biggest news of the night on the Academy of Country Music Awards was that George Strait won his second Entertainer of the Year award, 25 years after he won his first. This year he has stated will be the last one he goes on tour, and he is a remarkable entertainer.

Despite how much of a country music icon that George Strait is, the prediction made earlier today that the Entertainer of the Year Award would be won by Luke Bryan was primarily based on the fact that he won it last year. That was one incorrect prediction.

It could have just as easily been awarded to Blake Shelton, who, after all, has had 11 straight #1 hits; or his wife, Miranda Lambert, who did quite well also tonight; or to the other person nominated, Taylor Swift, who has a tremendous fan base; but, George Strait, who Blake called “our hero,” was the winner.

Blake performed twice during the Academy of Country Music Awards show, playing an acoustic guitar while he sang “My Eyes,” and then later doing a duet with Shakira, singing “Medicine.” Luke Bryan also performed twice, first singing “Play It Again,” and then performing with Florida Georgia Line as they sang “This is How We Roll.”

The first award presented on the Academy of Country Music Awards for the Vocal Duo of the Year went to Florida Georgia Line, which was a correctly made prediction in the earlier article.

The Academy of Country Music Award for Single Record of the Year went to Miranda Lambert for her song, co-written by Kacey Musgraves, “Mama’s Broken Heart.” That was another correct prediction that was made.

After she won the award, Miranda Lambert gave a terrific performance of her song “Automatic.”

Lambert also won the Academy of Country Music Awards Female Vocalist of the Year award for the fifth straight year. So much for the earlier prediction made today that Taylor Swift would be the winner; but, that was if she could mobilize her fan base.

The Academy of Country Music Awards Album of the Year award was won by Kacey Musgraves for “Same Trailer Different Park,” which had also picked up a Grammy Award for Country Album of the Year. The earlier, incorrect, prediction made was that Luke Bryan’s “Crash My Party” would be the winner. Hopefully, the readers of this article did somewhat better with their predictions.

“I Drive Your Truck” by Lee Brice won the Academy of Country Music Awards Song of the Year award. There were five great songs nominated for this award; the earlier article predicted the winner incorrectly. The prediction was that Blake Shelton’s “Mine Would Be You,” would win this award.

The Academy of Country Music Awards Vocal Group of the Year Award went to The Band Perry. The other groups up for the award included the Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, and the Zac Brown Band. The prediction made in the earlier article was that the winning group would be the Zac Brown Band.

The last major award presented on the Academy of Country Music Awards was for Male Vocalist of the Year. The winner of it was Jason Aldean. It was his second win in a row in this category. The earlier prediction made was that Blake Shelton would win this award. After all, come on; 11 straight #1 hits, and he’s also a popular judge on “The Voice.” But, he wasn’t the winner this time around — maybe next year.

Musical acts included Dierks Bentley with Sheryl Crow, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Justin Moore,Hunter Hayes, Luke Bryan, Lee Brice, Toby Keith, George Strait, Brett Eldredge, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Kip Moore, Darius Rucker, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Shakira, Lady Antebellum with legendary musician Stevie Nicks and Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line, and The Band Perry.

The 49th Annual Academy of Music Awards show was an entertaining awards show, featuring some of the biggest acts in country music today. There are so many talented country musicians and singers around that making accurate predictions, as the article earlier today points out, can be a challenge. How accurate were your predictions?
