Rapidly approaching the end of season one, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in episode 19 brings on Angel star Amy Acker and it looks like next week will see the arrival of Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill. This will be another big screen cross over from the film verse of Marvel with the inclusion of Hill in next week’s episode. Acker will be playing Audrey, the former love interest of Agent Coulson, also mentioned in several big screen Marvel films.
The super spy organization is still in a shambles after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and there is still a lot of chaos in the spy world. At the beginning of this week’s show Hydra agent Grant Ward is getting his Garrett induced wounds seen to and Phil Coulson wants to send a splinter team to protect his cello playing former lover from one of the worst escapees from “the fridge.”
After admitting that the price she paid for spying on Coulson was too high, Melinda May leaves the group. She tells Ward that Phil will never get over her betrayal. Ward goes on to dispose of Agent Koening before the “borrowed” NSA footage of HYRDA “over running” the Fridge shows what really happened. In the meantime, Coulson, Simmons, Triplett and Fitz go to stop the escapee known as Blackout who had focussed on Acker’s character before he was housed in the prison facility.
Once Ward has gotten rid of Koening, he and Sky talk about each other and the HYDRA agent moves in for the romantic kill when Sky finds blood on Ward’s jawline. It’s obviously from Koening, but Grant tells the agent it’s from one of his wounds. Grant goes to clean his wounds and his intended victim goes to find Koening.
In between shots of Sky looking for the missing agent, the cello player Audrey, is practising while Blackout approaches her. In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 19, Amy Acker plays the former love interest of Phil Coulson with a touching vulnerability. While Cobie Smulders has not appeared just yet as Fury’s other “good eye” Maria Hill, previews of next week’s show promises that she will indeed show up.
Coulson and his abbreviated team, after a little setback, stop Blackout. Phil discovers that while he was in the Fridge, Marcus Daniels, aka Blackout, was not neutralized as claimed, but improved. Despite the new skills that Daniels has picked up, he is defeated by the four agents. Audrey passes out and just before she comes to, Phil caresses her face and promises to look after her. When she comes to, she thinks she imagined her former lover being there.
Skye finds Koening’s lifeless body where Ward dumped it and she now knows that he is a HYDRA agent. The two take off in the bus to meet up with Fitz, whom Grant says contacted him requesting help. When Skye says that they should tell Koening, Ward lies, again, and says that he’s already told him and that he’s opening the hanger doors.
The two agents walk off hand-in-hand to get into the plane and take off. Meanwhile, Phil Coulson tells Fitz that he needs to see May and apologise for his over-reaction to her keeping an eye on him for Fury. When they return to the hanger the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. discover the “bus” gone. Acker’s character has been left behind and Cobie Smulders has not yet turned up. Skye is nervously dealing with the treacherous Grant Ward and it’s plain that she is in over her head. Next week will see the action amp up another notch or two.
