Summer is just two months away and that means new summer hits invading the airwaves. Like the summers of the past, everyone is working on the ultimate summer playlist, waiting to see who will dominae the chart and contribute to the soundtrack of the summer of 2014. Ariana Grande is definitely a contender; she released her new single, Problem, off her sophomore album, joining forces with Iggy Azelea, who just released her own sophomore album earlier this month. Making it clear that she is not going anywhere and she still has plenty of surprises left.
Ariana Grande’s first album, Yours Truly, started at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last September making the 20-year-old the 15th female solo artist whose album debuted at No. 1 on the charts, with 138, 000 albums sold. Guaranteeing her membership in the highly exclusive and impressive club of solo female artist, including superstars like Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, and Alicia Keys.
Briefly celebrating the accomplishment, she jumped right back into work and began thinking about her second album. In am interview with Billboard, Grande stated she was a workaholic and a perfectionist. Problem, is the first single off the yet to be titled second album
Performing the new single Problem for the first time at the Radio Disney Music Awards, Sunday night (April 27), Grande looked absolutely adorable in her all black ensemble, topped off with white knee boots and mouse ears. As always Ariana is a complete crowd pleaser, exercising her exceptional vocal cords and showing the crowd her sleek dance moves. Although, Iggy Azelea could not be there in person to perform with her, Ariana Grande did an absolutely wonderful job as always, entertaining the crowd, not missing a single note. Ariana was also honored at the awards show, she was given the “Radio Disney Chart Topper Award” which reflects her staying power on the Radio Disney charts, claiming 73 weeks with three top five singles.
Although the album is not slated for release until late summer, the new single, Problem, is already looking like a chart topper and has fans anxiously waiting for more. Explaining that at first she did not want the song to be added to the album, Grande said that after listening to it she knew it would be a hit and with that the rest is history.
At the start, the song represents the terrifying feeling a person gets when attempting to re-approach a relationship that did not work, even when it is all you want. She says the song ends on a sappy, yet negative note. It is unclear if the song is based on her personal life, but she did state that in real life they are hoping for a more positive ending.
With the single already cemented in trending feeds across the web and Ariana’s Twitter feed overflowing with positivity and fan’s enthusiasm, it is safe to say that all her hard work is paying off. The music world might as well get used to the name Ariana Grande. If her new single Problem is any indication, she is not going anywhere anytime soon and, at the age of 20, she still has years to work on perfecting her already remarkable talents and become a force in the industry.
