Dancing With the Stars Latin Night Sizzles (Recap/Review)

Dancing With the Stars Latin Night Sizzles (Recap/Review)
It’s Latin Night on Dancing With the Stars tonight! The guest judge, Ricky Martin, also opened up the show by performing his hit song “Vida” which commemorated the opening of the 2014 World Cup. The pro dancers also took the stage, in an awesome choreographed number that was MUY CALIENTE.

Tonight on Dancing With the Stars, the remaining celebrity dancers will dance two numbers with their pro dance partners. Besides performing individual dances with Latin themes, the couples will also perform in two team dances, and by the end of the episode, the celebrity and his/her pro dance partner with the lowest combined scores will be eliminated.

Just as with his life and his songs, Ricky says that he will also look for engagement and passion from tonight’s dancers as a judge on Dancing With the Stars.

Though celebrity Danica McKellar, Winnie in The Wonder Years, fractured one of her ribs during a practice session, she intneds to stick it out and continue on tonight as best she can, with her pro dance partner, Val Chmerkovskiy.

Paralympic snowboarding bronze medalist Amy Purdy and her pro dance partner, Derek Hough, were the first performers of the evening on Dancing With the Stars. They danced the Rumba to José Feliciano’s version of “Light My Fire” and did an AMAZING job that will be tough to beat!

Len said that the couple really lit his fire, and he thought that the mix was “first class” and “was sharp and rhythmic.”

Bruno loved the performance, as well, saying that Amy was “hot,” and that the dance “was sensuous, you never lost the elegance.”

Carrie Ann called Amy a “wonder woman,” and added that “if she wins” it’s “because you are incredible.”

Ricky said he had to go by what his heart was feeling as he watched them dance. He said he couldn’t take his eyes off of Amy.

The four judges gave Amy and Derek very high scores, straight 9s, for a total of 36/40 points.

The second couple of the night on Dancing With the Stars was James Maslow and professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd. They danced the Samba to “Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee. Their performance was also incredible, rivaling that of Amy and Derek.

Bruno said that the dancers “blew my spark plugs.” He said that the dance “was filthy and dirty and I loved it.” Oh, Bruno — he has such a way with words, that one….

Carrie Ann called the chemistry between James and Peta “sick.” She told them that they “worked that Samba.”

Ricky called the incredible dance “the gift that keeps on giving,” and said that the couple “were taking it to the next level.”

Len said that Pita’s “footwork was not perfect,” but added that she “gave it your all, full of energy, and I loved it.”

The judges gave them three 9s, and Bruno just gave them an 8. That gives the couple the total of 35/40 points, putting them into second place.

The third couple on Dancing With the Stars were Danica McKellar and Val Chmerkovskiy dancing the Salsa to “Watch Out for This (Bumaye)” by Major Lazer (feat. Busy Signal, The Flexican & FS Green). They did a great job, in particular considering that Danica was injured.

Carrie Ann told Danica that she felt for her, but added that “the injury stifled the movement.”

Ricky gave Danica “mad respect” for dancing despite having a broken rib, and he said that she and Val had “amazing chemistry” together.

Len said that the Salsa had two parts to it, and that they “went wrong once” but that the overall dance “was good.”

Bruno told them that they went for a “ghetto Salsa,” but he added that he thought they “are going to be back next week.”

Carrie Ann gave the couple an 8, while the other judges gave them 9s, for a total of 33/40.

The fourth couple on Dancing With the Stars were NeNe Leakees and her pro dance partner, Tony Dovolani, and they danced the Argentine Tango to “Can’t Remember to Forget You” by Shakira (feat. Rihanna). Though they danced fairly well, they did not earn very high scores from the judges.

Ricky liked how well NeNe danced, saying that she seemed to be ready before she ever got onto the stage, and she “seemed to be floating on the stage.’

Len agreed, saying that NeNe got “right in character and sold it” though he said that “the technical could have been better.”

Bruno told them “you have to work on those hooks they have to be sharper.”

Carrie Ann thought that “the opening was a ten” and siad she “was impressed by how far you’ve come.”

The judges, with the exception of Len, gave them 8s. Len gave the couple just a 7, for a total of 31/40 points. That made their score the lowest of the evening so far, and put them in danger of being eliminated.

Olympic Ice Dancer and medalist Charlie White and his pro dance partner Sharna Burgess performed the Paso Doblo to the song “Sail” by Awolnation. They performed a fantastic dance, and the judges, for the most part, rewarded them for it.

Len wasn’t that impressed, however, by Charlie dancing without his shirt on. He said that to get a 10, he “had to do something special, and that was not it.”

Bruno said that Charlie put a lot into the dance, but “lost a bit of steadiness.”

Carrie Ann told Charlie that to get a 10, he had “to put an end on your move.”

Ricky said that, though he saw what the other judges were saying, he “was flying with you guys.” He added that he “was blown away.”

Carrie ann and Bruno gave the couple 9s, while Len just gave them an 8. however, Ricky gave them a 10, for a total of 36/40 points!

Candace Cameron Bure and her pro dance partner, Mark Ballas, were up next on Dancing With the Stars. They performed a marvelous Argentine Tango to “1977” by Ana Tijoux.

Bruno liked it, saying that “That was an Argentine Tango. Great legs.”

Carrie Ann said that with their great performance, “the game was on.”

Ricky told them that “It was clean. It was superb.”

Len said that they “went right into the routine,” and that “there was no messing around.”

Three of the judges gave them 9s, but Carrie Ann just gave the couple an 8, for a total of 35/40 points.

Then, Meryl Davis and her pro dance partner, Maks Chmerkovskiy, danced the Salsa to the song “Adrenalina” by Wisin (feat. Ricky Martin & Jennifer Lopez). They performed what was perhaps the best dance of the night on Dancing With the Stars so far, with this hot number.

Carrie Ann told them that they blew her away. She said that she was surprised by how well they danced the Salsa together.

Ricky said that he “loved what they were doing,” and that it “was amazing.”

Len seemed to think that their dance, as he said, “got a bit too involved in the production.”

Bruno declared that “Meryl was the leader of the gang with plenty of bang.” He added that they “were dancing in front of six of the best professionals in the country” so he “saluted them.”

The couple got excellent scores from the judges. Len gave them a 9, while the other three judges rewarded them with 10s, for a total of 39/40 points, almost a perfect score!

That marked the end of the individual dances. Next, the Team Dances part of Latin Night on Dancing With the Stars began.

The first of the two teams, Team Vida, was made up of NeNeLeakes, James Maslow, and Charlie White. They danced a Freestyle dance to the song “The Cup of Life” by Ricky Martin.

Ricky said of the dance that it “was complicated” but that “it looked like a walk in the park.”

Len called the performance “together” and “tight” and called how they danced “well done!”

Bruno compared the dance to “an extra large tequila.” He said it had a couple of “sync problems,” but that it was “incredible fun.”

Carrie Ann said that the group dance “was suppose dto be all about sync.” Instead, she said that “it was high energy.”

Len and Carrie Ann gave the team 8s, while Bruno gave them a 9, and Ricky rewarded them with a 10, for a total of 35/40 points.

Then, it was time for Team Loco to see if they could get a better score. It was composed of Amy Purdy, Meryl Davis, Danica McKellar, and Candace Bure. They danced a Freestyle dance to another Ricky Martin hit, “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”

Carrie Ann was very impressed, saying that how ell they did “was insane.” She added that she had “never seen a tighter group performance.”

Ricky told them “Congratulations” and called their performance “incredible.”

Len said their dance was “fantastic” and said that “the pressure was off.”

Bruno called their performance “slick” and “worth a repeat performance.”

The judges all gave the group 10s, except for Len, who gave them a 9, for a total of 39/40 points.

Who was the couple eliminated from tonight’s episode of Dancing With the Stars, Latin Night? The celebrity who scored the fewest points and won’t be returning next week was NeNe Leakes, along with her pro dance partner, Tony Dovolani. NeNe was an amazing celebrity dancer this season, and she and Tony provided viewers with many moments of watching dancing that was like poetry in motion.
