Though the pilot hasn’t officially been picked up to be turned into a series, How I Met You Dad has landed Meg Ryan to do the voiceovers, as Bob Saget did for How I Met Your Mother.Saget has a sort of “Everyman” quality about his voice that made him perfect to do the voiceovers for How I Met Your Mother, and Meg Ryan has an “Everywoman” voice that might make her just right for the voiceovers for How I Met Your Dad and she just might help make the show a hit for CBS.
It’s been known for some time (since this past February) that the main star of How I Met Your Dad is indie favorite Greta Gerwig, and she will play the role of Sally; but, not much more has been made public about the proposed series, other than it’s not technically a “spin-off” of How I Met Your Mother.
That’s because none of the characters from How I Met Your Mother will be mainstay characters in How I Met Your Dad, though Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin) mentioned in an interview she did with PopSugar that she might appear on an episode as someone passing by in the background, as an extra.
More information has come to light, besides the signing of Meg Ryan to be the unseen older version of Sally, doing the voiceovers for How I Met Your Dad.
For instance, there will be a cast of five characters on How I Met Your Dad, four not counting the main character, Sally. Reportedly, Sally will have a gay brother, and the brother’s husband will be another character on the show.
Sally will also have the obligatory best friend, and her boss will double as one of her love interests. Assuming that the members of the cast will gel well together, How I Met Your Dad might become as big of a hit for CBS as How I Met Your Mother has been.
How I Met Your Mother was a hit so How I Met Your Dad should also become a hit, right?
What could be better than copying the premise of an older hit show but switching the sex of the main character to make a brand-new hit show? Apparently, CBS is hoping that will be the case with How I Met Your Dad.
One difference is that Sally, in the pilot of How I Met Your Dad, is married, though unhappily; whereas Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother was single until he eventually met the mother of his children.
If How I Met Your Dad is picked up by CBS, it hopefully will be the boost that will help rejuvenate Meg Ryan’s career. Meg Ryan’s a very talented actress who has been out of the spotlight for far too long, though she may be appearing on TV in person in a new pilot she’s working on for NBC, along with doing the voiceovers for How I Met Your Dad for CBS.
