J.K. Rowling has continued her Potterverse with articles written by Ginny Weasley, under her married name Ginny Potter. The Harry Potter author is continuing with works that she knows will make her money, and focusing on the Quidditch World Cup.
It seems like she cannot get enough of her fictional world, and who can blame her when it has already made her millions. She has placed her articles on her website, Pottermore, which is completely free for people to sign up to. Fans are even sorted into one of the four houses when they sign up, which they have to do to be able to read anything.
The first article goes into the history of the Quidditch World Cup, making the whole event come to life. It is something that movie fans missed out on, since the game was shown for a few minutes in the fourth movie. There was much more to it in the book, and some of the events are even mentioned in the new article. After all, the Death Eaters did show up and destroy everything.
In the second article, she covers the 1990 games along with a hint into the date for this year’s World Cup. It is like the books all over again, with twists and turns, including Victor Krum possibly coming out of retirement. He apparently retired in 2002, but has never won the Cup and really wants to before he dies.
Ginny Weasley is part of the continuation of Rowling’s Potterverse with the most recent article. The youngest Weasley child, and only girl, is commentating in the World Cup games, which are currently underway. There has already been a five-day long match and problems at the opening ceremony. Fans will be delighted to hear that there are more commentaries on the way.
It seems strange that Rowling is going to so much effort to offer all this for free. It is definitely fun for fans, but surely another book would make more sense. She could focus a whole book about the World Cup, similar to the textbook that was released between books four and five.
However, the Harry Potter author has a lot of other writing on her plate. These articles are possibly things that she can quickly get out while the ideas are hot. She is currently working on the screenplays for three movies that will take place before the Potter universe even started. It will surround the aforementioned textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The textbook is being split into three movies and will follow Newt Scamander through the various magical creatures from the fantasy world. For those wondering just what this new character will be like, they get a small glimpse in the recent articles at Pottermore. Newt’s grandson Rolf is mentioned in them. It at least introduces people to the family to get them ready for the upcoming movie series.
While fans wait for the new movie, there are plenty of things to keep them entertained. Pottermore is full of games and things to read, including Ginny Weasley’s commentary of the Quidditch World Cup in Rowling’s continuation of the Potterverse.
