Hiphop’s royal couple is embarking on a royal cruise of a different sort this summer–Jay-Z and Beyoncé are in the process of setting up dates for a combined summer 2014 stadium tour. Sources have revealed that their 20-date show set will launch in late June with the possibility of performing in New York City on July 4. This would be the first couple of hiphop’s first complete tour as a combo.
Within the last year, the two have been on individual tours promoting their latest album releases. In January, Jay wrapped up a 52-date tour for Magna Carta…Holy Grail and his wife closed up her year-long Mrs. Carter Show World Tour last month. Both artists made surprise appearances periodically on one another’s tours. This summer, the hip hop power couple will appear as a collective unit while on tour together, and potentially there could be other surprises on Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s guest list.
Mr. Carter and his bride are not shy about parading the dynamics of their duo. The couple is often paired together on stage in collaborative performances, especially when showcasing their collaborative singles. Drunk in Love, from Beyoncé’s latest album BEYONCÉ released in December, has been performed by the pair at a number of high-profile events. They opened up the Grammy Awards with the sultry hit earlier this year, also stopping by a special DirecTV Super Bowl party, and once again brought the sexy number out while Beyoncé was at The O2 in London late this past February.
This past Sunday, while at Coachella, both Beyoncé and Jay-Z got up on stage separately. Beyoncé popped up to support her sister Solange Knowles, incorporating a dance routine to Solange’s hit Losing You. Her husband joined buddy New York City neighborhood rappers Nas and Diddy on stage.
Until recently, the couple was fairly reticent regarding their relationship, which began not long after the turn of the new millennium when the two came together for the 2002 hit single ’03 Bonnie & Clyde. Forbes and Billboard have recently regarded the hip-hop couple as the most influential pair in the music industry. The two married in a secret ceremony in Jay’s Manhattan penthouse in 2008, but talk of the union remained a bit hush-hush until it was hinted at a different public appearances. Once the two were expecting a child, their romance and union could not be hidden, and since the Mr. and Mrs. seem to have no problem sharing their passion for each other and their love for their child with the world.
The married entertainers apparently want to celebrate their unique and fortunate coupling by performing together for their fans. Since both Jay-Z and Beyoncé already wrapped up tours of their recent tours, there will most likely be nothing new to promote on the summer tour, so the show is bound to be filled with all of their hot hip hop hits–with maybe a sprinkling of some new material. With only 20 tour dates, the special event will go by in a flash.
