Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-OH, springs a leak at many events he speaks at, the latest one being sponsored by Taco Bell. Boehner, who as a reputation for getting a case of the water works frequently, fought back tears as he delivered a speech for an event put on by the Taco Bell Foundation, which donated $30 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Speaker Boehner warned the crowd that the tears might start flowing by saying that some in the crowd know how emotional he gets over these issues.
During his speech, Boehner fought to keep his emotions in check as he discussed the need for America to do a better job educating its children. Many would argue that this would be better accomplished if the federal government got out of the education sector and left that responsibility up to local communities and parents, but Speaker Boehner might find that idea to be a bit on the radical side, after all, too much of anything is a bad thing, even if it is freedom. At least that seems to be the way big government Progressives tend to think.
Along side John Boehner at the Taco Bell event, watching the tears spring from his eyes and leak down his cheeks was Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child fame. Rowlan said she thought the Speaker’s reaction was sweet, noting that he, along with other members of Congress have a full plate, dealing with a lot of tough issues on a daily basis. While Rowlan might get all warm and toasty inside at the sight of Boehner’s tears, the act may not be due to a purely emotional connection to the cause.
As it turns out, there is a political group called TACO PAC, which is associated with Taco Bell franchisees, that has donated nearly $71,000 this year to over 48 Republicans, with only $6,000 in donations to two Democrats. Boehner’s warm show of emotion might have been more related to the fact that this group is donating a lot of money to help his colleagues get elected to office, rather than money going toward helping children. When it comes to politicians, it is difficult to ascertain what their motivations are when it comes to causes and events like this one. Do they really care, or is it smart political maneuvering to try and gain a more favorable position in the next election? Sadly, it is usually the latter, as many who get into Washington decide to make living off taxpayer dollars their full time gig.
Boehner has been losing a lot of support from the constituents in his Ohio district, with many being displeased with his lack of action in forming a select committee to investigate the Benghazi incident. Constituents have also voiced their concern with how Boehner has been caving into the demands of Democrats, along with his refusal to use the power of the purse to defund Obamacare. There are currently three candidates running against him in the May primary, which could see Boehner getting tossed out of Congress. If John Boehner loses the primary, it is a safe bet he will go on television, spring a leak, and sob all the way down to Florida where he recently bought a home, all while munching on tacos provided by his friends from TACO PAC.
