Kandi Burruss married longtime boyfriend Todd Tucker Friday evening. Before finally tying the knot, the couple dated for four years. The news of the duo exchanging vows comes right after Burruss’ mother expressed her concern over Tucker’s intentions. Mama Joyce accused her son-in-law of cheating on Burruss with her assistant, Carmon, and using her for fame.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star went forward with the wedding despite Tucker not signing a prenup. However, Mama Joyce was in attendance when the two lovebirds decided to say their “I dos.” The mother of the bride even shared a toast in front of family and friends. Burruss’ mother’s quarrel with Tucker was the center storyline on the reality TV series. “I didn’t stop liking you. I stopped respecting you.” the mother told Tucker when he attempted to patch things up.
After Burruss married Tucker, she took to her Twitter to express her thoughts. The couple got engaged in January 2013. The former producer of the show proposed to Burruss with a two-carat white diamond ring. The sparkler was designed by Gregg Ruth. “Last night was the best night of my life!” the reality star tweeted.
Before her marriage to Tucker, Burruss was in two previous relationships. She dated Russell “Block” Spencer for some time. The pair have a daughter, Riley Burruss. The reality TV star was also in a relationship with Ashley “AJ” Jewell. The couple began dating in 2008, and became engaged in January 2009. However, Jewell died after suffering from head injuries in a fight.
Burruss was in the R&B music group, Xscape. The group had six top 10 hits including Understanding, Who Can I Run To and Just Kicking It. After Xscape disbanded, Burruss went on to produce the number one hit, No Scrubs with the help of former bandmate Tameka “Tiny” Cottle. The reality star also began to write songs for other singers such as Pink and the former group Destiny’s Child. She released her first solo album in 2000. Hey Kandi featured the hit song, Don’t Think I’m Not.
The reality star also has her own sex toy company, Bedroom Kandi. She has made cameo appearances on other shows including Single Ladies, Let’s Stay Together and Thicker than Water. She won the 2000 American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers ‘s Songwriter of the Year award. She became the first African-American women to do so.
Burruss has been a cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta since the second season. Burruss began dating Tucker during the fourth season of the show. Season six of the reality TV series premiered Sunday, November 3. The reality star received her own spin-off, The Kandi Factory. The Bravo series debuted April 9, 2013. The show did not get picked up for a second season.
Despite her mother’s claims of Tucker being an “opportunist”, Burruss married the former producer April 4. “They’re together, but I’m out of the relationship,” Mama Joyce said in January. “I have rekindled a very healthy relationship with my daughter, and my granddaughter [Riley], and we are in a very good place….I pray and hope that I’m wrong about Todd.”
