Keanu Reeves has signed on to play in Eli Roth’s new psychosexual thriller Knock,Knock. Reeves will also be executive producer as well as play the lead role. Filming is scheduled to begin in Santiago, Chile later this month according to Deadline.
Reeves’s character, a married man, is home alone one weekend when two young girls appear with anything but benign intentions. The roles of the two girls will be played by Ana de Armas and Lorenza Izzo. Ana de Armas has recently appeared in Hands of Stone and Izzo starred in The Green Inferno, another film by Roth. “I had a window before I promoted Green Inferno,” Roth said, “and I wanted to make a movie like Roman Polanski.” The film director included the likes of Paul Verhoeven referring to when the controversial directors were young. Roth said he wanted to make “a classical psycho-sexual thriller that’s not a horror movie, but would have everyone on the edge of their seats.”
Roth has been away from film directing but is returning with The Green Inferno, a cannibal story, slated for release in September 2014. The horror film director is excited to get back to work, Roth told Deadline. Roth seems to be intent on getting the film Knock,Knock ready for September in order to take part in the Toronto Film Festival. “Getting Keanu is amazing, he’s a fine actor who is perfect for this.” Roth said. “I fell I can have this movie ready for Toronto if I need to,” the director continued, “and he’s catching a plane tomorrow and we’ll be fitting him for wardrobe right away.”
The Knock,Knock script, written by Guillermo Amoedo, Nicolas Lopez and Eli Roth has gotten Reeves excited to play in the new psychosexual thriller as the 47 Ronin star is impressed with the script. The film seems to be a reunion of the cast of The Green Inferno with Aaron Burns also having a role in Knock,Knock. Perhaps by utilizing actors from his recent horror film saves Roth time to get the film done for The Toronto Film Festival.
Though companies are fighting for domestic distribution and the international rights, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), along with Cassian Elwes will be in charge of selling the domestic rights. All the other deals surrounding the film would be done in Cannes. Roth told Deadline that the director will have a trailer ready to show at Cannes. Producers of the film are Collen Camp, who is also to have a role in the film, Roth, Miguel Asensio, Nicolas Lopez, Tim DeGraye and Cassian Elwes. Along with Reeves as executive producers are Teddy Schwarzman, Sondra Locke, Peter Traynor and Larry Spiegel.
Reeves who has starred in blockbuster hits such as The Matrix and Speed is sure to be a good choice for the role. The 49-year-old has proven that the actor can carry a film and draw big audiences as well. For Keanu Reeves this new psychosexual thriller can be yet another turning point for the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure star. Maybe even open up some new doors and perhaps even some impressive nods from Reeves celebrity colleagues.
