Hollywood star Lupita Nyong’o has been officially unveiled as the new face of Lancôme. The French beauty giant chose the 31-year-old Kenyan actress due to her natural beauty and confidence. After her famous win at the Oscars, Kenya’s president described the talented actress as “the pride of Africa.” She is currently the most feted star of the year in Hollywood and beyond.
In a statement released today by the famous French beauty brand, Lupita Nyong’o was chosen because of her sophisticated talent, unique beauty, and inner strength that has taken the world by storm over the past few months. The fashion giant also described the Mexican-born Kenyan star as someone who stays true to herself, embraces life with freshness and relies on happiness as the most beautiful form of radiance. She expressed her joy after being chosen as the new face of Lancôme.
“I am truly honored to be part of the Maison Lancôme, a famous brand with such a rich history that I have always admired,” said the talented actress who is a graduate of Yale School of Drama. She featured in various films in Kenya such as the popular MTV series Shuga before landing her major role alongside established actor Brad Pitt in the award-winning film 12 Years a Slave.
“I am even proud to represent its unique vision for women and the notion that beauty should never be dictated. Instead, it should be an expression of the freedom of a woman to be herself,” she added.
Lupita Nyong’o now joins the ranks of Julia Roberts, Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Lily Collins in the list of celebrities who endorse the Lancôme brand. She is expected to take part in numerous campaign shots this summer by star photographers Marcus Piggot and Mert Alas.
According to the General Manager of Lancôme International, Francoise Lehmann, Lupita Nyong’o is talented, intelligent, committed and true to her unique African beauty. She shows great curiosity and open-mindedness in her career choices.
She is the fourth Academy Award-winning actress to be selected as an ambassadress of the Lancôme brand after playing the role of Patsey in the film 12 Years a Slave by Steve McQueen. She has since won many other prestigious awards all over the world including the Screen Actors Guild Award, NAACP Award, the Independent Spirit Award and the 2013 New Hollywood Award.
Sources close to the famous actress also revealed that she once met J.J. Abrams for a possible role in the upcoming episode of Star Wars. This happened just a few weeks before the Academy Awards where she was declared the best supporting actress. She might also feature in The Whole Truth, a courtroom drama that includes the likes of Daniel Craig. Her alleged role in Star Wars: Episode VII is still unclear due to the secrecy of the matter. Abrams is said to be holding a series of meetings with some other actors to discuss their roles in his upcoming productions. Lupita Nyongo’s star seems to shine brighter every day and with discipline and dedication, the young beautiful African girl will rise further than her recent appointment as the new face of Lancôme.
