NBA Draft to Have Many Big Names

NBA

The NBA draft this year is looking to be filled with many big names and have the potential to be a game changer for the entire league. Unlike the NFL snake method, the draft is based off chance. An air lottery ball machine is used to randomly selected the selection position of each team. While it is a good system, it is not perfect as it gives opportunity for borderline teams to tank a season for a chance to draft a potentially high talent. Typically, there is a higher chance for a team with the lowest record to gain a top pick, however it is not guaranteed. It is also not guaranteed that the player drafted will be able to perform at the level needed for the franchise. Regardless, the NBA draft will surely be an event for teams in position to help shape their future. Building in the draft has been a staple for organizations within the past few seasons. The Oklahoma City Thunder are the most notable team to have seen success with wise draft choices.

Two of the most scouted players in this years NBA draft are Kansas forward Andrew Wiggins and Duke forward Jabari Parker. Wiggins was not only named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, but was he was also named to the All-American second team. While the Canadian born player stands at 6’8, his two hundred pound frame might be an issue when he transitions toward the NBA. Although he has stated he did not make up his mind, there are reports that Jabari Parker will indeed declare for the draft. The small forward won the USBWA National Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-American first team. Averaging 19.1 points per game, it is not hard to see why Jabari Parker is ahead of Andrew Wiggins in many mock drafts by analysts, but it will all depend on the team and the needs that would need to be addressed. Either one of these two players have the potential to become franchise changing talent.

The NBA draft will also feature Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart and Kentucky forward Julius Randle, who may not have had their name come up in media discussions, but many who played with or against the two know very well both players know how to play. Smart was involved in some controversy in the middle of the season due to an altercation with a fan, but it doesn’t seem like it will affect his stock value. During the first game of the NCAA March Madness tournament, Marcus Smart became the first player to record 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals in a game. Although Oklahoma State ultimately lost the game, Smart’s effort and performance in the game has shown teams just what he is capable of. SEC Rookie of the Year Julius Randle has also been performing at a high level. With Randle and the collective efforts of the Kentucky Wildcats, the team made it all the way to the March Madness finals. Julius Randle is a cant miss talent for teams needing a big presence under the rim who also happens to have an offensive game.

The NBA draft is looking to have many big names this year. The teams who are lucky enough to have a high selection pick will not be disappointed.
