Fans have been trying to contain their excitement as the anticipation for Nintendo’s Direct builds. The announcement is set to begin at 3 p.m. PST on April 8 2014. It seems this event is aimed specifically at the next Super Smash Bros game and fans are crossing fingers for new character reveals and trailers. Fortunately the event revealed that Greninja will be joining the roster.
Nintendo sure has a way of getting information to their fans. The enthusiasm around this event has been substantial for days as friends and competitors toss around possible ideas. The fun with talking about the future of the Smash series is that it is capable of so much at this point; speculation exists about every aspect of the game. Are we getting a Fire Emblem stage for the Wii U? Will any new characters use moves borrowed from characters no longer on the roster? How about Dr. Luigi?
One stage that received a lot of detail specifically, the stage Final Destination. Every map will have their own rendition of Final Destination. Of the two different ways to play online, “For Fun” or For Glory” the latter will contain only Final Destination stages while “For Fun” will have all stages except for Final Destination. “For Glory” looks to be for the serious competition as it has no items or other stages. “For Fun” will have all the smash shenanigans you’d expect.
Now for a bunch of fun details all at once. Shiek and Zelda have some new moves because they can no longer transform; both characters have their own spot on the roster now. Charizard has his Mega evolution into Chiarizard X. Master balls will feature exclusively legendary Pokémon. Wii Fit Trainer has a Male version. Nintendo also mentioned some stage specifics. Dr.Wily’s castle will feature Yellow Demon as a boss that appears on the level. It was also hinted at that one of the Metroid stages would likely have Ridley as a boss.
Of course, arguably the biggest news is the new challenger joining the battle, no it isn’t Mewtwo’s return, it is the entrance of Greninja.
As for some specifics in the 3DS version of smash, the game will run at 60 frames per second and assist characters will run at 30 FPS. The 3DS version of Smash 4 will also feature an exclusive mode similar to City Trial from the 2003 game Kirby Air Ride. In this mode each player will explore a large environment and look for power-ups before they face off in actual combat. This version of the game is also set to release this Summer, while the Wii U version is set to release in the Winter.
For a quick wrap-up, this Nintendo Direct brought back Zero Suit Samus, (with outfit adjustments) Zelda, Yoshi, Charizard, and introduced Greninja to the roster of characters.
With all that aside, the Nintendo Direct livstream has just ended and you may have some mixed feelings about it. As this recently introduced information changes the game of Smash Bros, please comment your thoughts on the matter. After all, if enough people ask for Skull Kid in the next Smash bros game Nintendo will at least have to acknowledge that people want him on the roster.
