Pokemon X and Y Sell “Nearly 12 Million” as Fastest Selling 3DS Pair[Video]

Pokémon X and Pokemon Y Diancie Cocon of Destruction

The Pokémon Company gave an announcement today about the success of Pokemon X and Y. The pair have become the fastest selling 3DS games by “seliing nearly 12 million copies worldwide.” The total sizable, but still not as enormous as Pokemon Black and White, 15,4 million; or Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, 17.6 million.

It is no surprise that Nintendo has been having a rough time lately, the Wii U has been hard on sales. Thankfully, the Nintendo 3DS has been doing wonders for the company as excellent game after excellent game release for it. Originally, the 3DS also performed less than expected in sales. The resulting effect had Nintendo making tons of themed 3DS’s with new games, as well as the Nintendo 2DS. With so many great games coming out for the system, Nintendo should be able to breathe a little now.

The sixth generation of Pokemon games Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, came out in October of 2013. Since then they have sold a total of “nearly 12 million copies worldwide.” In addition, the Pokemon Company added that Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are currently the fastest selling 3DS games. The Pokemon Company also announced that Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction would be coming to the West. This announcement comes accompanied with an English dubbed trailer, enjoy.

To add even more credibility to this claim, the Pokémon Spring Regional Championships started this weekend. Four separate regional events took place across the USA this weekend, with two more taking place next weekend. Competitors battled via the Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon X or Y.

What can you expect to see from such Regional events? A wide love for all things pokemon and a readiness (or not) to compete. With only six events taking place across the whole United States each location gathered multiple states worth of competition.

Do Pokemon X and Y deserve the attention they are getting? That is a decision for you figure out for yourself. The IGN review game the game a 9.0 out of 10 and the Destructoid review gave it a 9.5 out of 10. Critics are impressed across the board, but why?

Pokemon X and Y feature a beautiful new region (based on France) as well as a new generation of creatures to capture, bond, and compete with. This generation includes a new way to connect with your Pokemon, the two of you can play games, eat snacks, and interact together. This generation also presents a more streamlined set up, making it easier for serious gamers to IV and EV train their party. With the Pokémon Company gaining success with “nearly 12 million copies worldwide” sold for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y it is no wonder the Nintendo 3DS is making sales. The trailer for Pokemon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction has also been released. Smart move, getting this news out before the Nintendo Direct tomorrow.
