Angelina Jolie has a lot going on in her life, and takes great joy in making it happen in style. How her life has unfolded has surprised her with wondrous opportunities in love and humanitarianism she did not expect as a young person.
Jolie’s newest film, Maleficent, opens May 30th. Her next project is her directorial debut film, Unbroken. In the works is a shared film with her soon to be husband, Brad Pitt. Jolie is writing the script of an independent, and intimate production that allows these headliners to indulge in their experimental yearnings. With her recent double mastectomy, and continued plans for preventative surgery, she has empowered many women to take a proactive role in their health. She continues to act as special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and is an amazing example for the creative, multi-tasking power that is woman.
Angelina Jolie has been very open about the stress of coming from a broken home, and the rebellion she experimented with as a young woman. Her honesty was seen by some as a cry for help, and by others as a natural extension of her massive passion for life. The fact that she has taken her challenges head on directly in the glare of the limelight, and has emerged with poise and success, is encouraging for the many people who look up to her. She was not content will success that did not contain an element of genuine altruism. Not only has she used her platform and given her time engaging in activism, she continues to create films that educate and inspire.
A lot of Angelina Jolie’s passion happens to be making a direct impact on those she cares about. Whether it is in the nurturing she gives Brad and their children, or the refugees for whom she advocates, her reach is profound. Her next film, Unbroken, illustrates the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete who was taken prisoner during WWII by Japanese soldiers. Jolie enjoys the chance to portray everyday people who are thrown into extraordinary circumstances which reveal their inherent strength. Her role in A Mighty Heart told the story of Mariane Pearl, the wife of kidnapped journalist Daniel Pearl. Beyond Boarders, with Clive Owen, is a film about what really happens in refugee camps, and what it takes to get food and medicine to those most in need. Her passion for these issues spills out onto the screen, and is a captivating way to communicate the urgency of these global issues.
A hard worker, Jolie has participated in over 30 films so far. Last year The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded her the Humanitarian honor. Many of the characters she portrays experience profound growth in the stories, and find themselves changing in unexpected ways. This choice of characters reflects how complex her evolution has been. She never expected to find a partner she could trust to share a family with, and being able to connect with the mother in her has brought unexpected joy into her life. She is on the cover of Elle magazine this month, and the interview goes into her feelings about love and family. She is a non-traditional mother, and encourages diverse women to reach for their dreams no matter the challenges. Changes have happened, and a lot of opportunity is available for women today because of women like Angelina Jolie, who have made their reputation and risked their careers due to the strength of their convictions. Watching her passion spill over into personal and global areas is just as entertaining as watching her films.
