The time is drawing near for the next American Idol to be announced. The finale of season thirteen will be broadcast on Wednesday May 20 on FOX from the famed Nokia Theatre in Hollywood. Fans and followers of the show will tune in to see an array of their favorite singers and guest stars put on an elaborate show as the awaited winner will be announced at the very end. Past contestants will strut their wares and harp into harmony as the winner waits in wonder. The two contestants striving for the crown are Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson. Either one would be most deserving for different reasons, but Johnson is set to kiss the victory of winning the American Idol competition.
Johnson, who celebrated his golden birthday of age 23 on the twenty-third day of April of this year, has come way too far over the past few years to lose. He has previously auditioned and competed in the show, only to be disqualified by an inch. With two close calls in the competition, he was disqualified and went home. Coming close is not acceptable as Johnson auditioned again for this season. The third time is a charm, as they say, and Johnson has more than doubled his staying power in season 13.
The rock and roll buff from Asheville, North Carolina has a certain charm and a booming voice that cannot be denied. Forming his own band, Elijah Hooker in 2010, Johnson has continued to stand out in the crowd. Soothing and delighting audiences with his suave nature and strong vocals, Johnson has easily demonstrated the ability to engage a connection from the stage to the seat. It is not just listening to a song, it becomes an experience for all involved.
Johnson is becoming a master of the mix between legendary rock and roll and his own style. Never afraid to try something new, he has succeeded with old standards while bringing out a new vibe. Johnson has made it through this season’s competition with amazing renditions of Adele’s Skyfall, Steven Tyler’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, Paul McCartney’s Maybe I’m Amazed and Led Zeppelin’s Dazed and Confused. Always recognizing the original artist, Johnson still brings his own style to the performance.
Not claiming to kiss a girlfriend or anyone else as he does his own thing, Johnson was humbled recently with the attention from his own hometown of Asheville, NC. He participated in a parade and two concerts, ultimately losing his voice which jeopardized his spot on the weekly show. Under a physician’s care, Johnson spoke sparingly but was still able to belt out three convincing entries.
As the week drew to a close, the final contestants sang their last song before the final nationwide vote. Judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. gave their last reviews and mentor Randy Jackson breathed a satisfied sigh of relief. It was time for the last elimination before the grand finale.
Alex Preston, original song-writer and guitarist from New Hampshire was sadly sent home, but not before Ryan Seacrest announced special performances for the top three for the finale show. Preston will be singing with Jason Mraz, Jena Irene is set to croon with Paramore and as luck would have it, Johnson is scheduled to perform with KISS, one of the most loved rock and roll bands of all time.
This has been a tremendously talented season of American Idol. As America narrows down the vote for the winner, all who have participated have earned the chance at a record and recognition for their outstanding talent. Going on tour this summer, whoever is the final winner, they will have had the pleasure of KISS on the stage with them. Johnson will be up close and personal with KISS and have a life time with friends he’s grown to love and respect.
UPDATE!! Caleb Johnson did it! He is the next American Idol!! Congratulations, Caleb!
