Recently the bubbling of rumors began that the main cast of the Harry Potter series were going to get together for a film reunion. The buzz started when Universal Studies in Orlando announced its new ride to open summer 2014 called Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts.
This new, exciting and intense ride is supposed to have Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) in new footage for the Gringotts theme park. Art Director for the new ride and the Harry Potter films, Alan Gilmore, said in an interview with MTV, “They’ll be there! It is quite exciting.” It is what Gilmore said next that prompted Daniel Radcliffe to respond and set the record straight. “They’re regrouping for one last adventure…it’s all new, it’s a brand new film.” Gilmore went on to say that the film is in the highest of film quality with the Universal production team joining forces with Warners film team.
Gilmore makes it sound like the cast had already filmed this never before seen footage and did so especially for the theme park ride. However, Radcliffe has something completely different to say about the reunion of the Harry Potter cast being in the works.
Though Gilmore and Universal Studios are pitching the new ride with this new film, Radcliffe told the Daily Beast that he has never heard of any of that. “I know nothing about that,” Radcliffe further explains that the footage used could be from scenes used from the actual Harry Potter films. Radcliffe goes on to say, “I have had no calls or involvement with that.”
On the Universal Orlando website, the film is being officially pitched as Harry, Hermione and Ron must sneak into Gringotts bank to find the Horcrux to defeat Lord Voldemort. The video sounds a lot like an existing scene in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. In the last installment of the Harry Potter franchise, Harry, Hermione, Ron and Griphook sneak their way into Gringotts bank to break into Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault to find the Horcrux the trio needs to defeat He Who Shall Not Be Named. So Radcliffe could very well be right and the footage could be cut from scenes the cast have already filmed for the series.
“A while ago they asked me to do more stuff for the theme park,” Radcliffe said, “and that was my moment to try and draw a line because that theme park is going to keep expanding.” Radcliffe went on to explain that soon the actor would be 30-years-old and that if Radcliffe was still doing work as Harry Potter then “that would be a huge problem.”
Radcliffe has nothing but good things to say about others who may be involved, wishing them “all the luck in the world.” Radcliffe continued, “And I genuinely think that what they did with the theme park in Florida is fantastic, and they really did a great job.”
Though the confusion is clear as Gilmore has been selling this new ride, which will appear in a new section of the theme park called The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, with the news of a reunion in the works for Radcliffe, Watson and Grint. Radcliffe assures us that is not to be the case. Check out the video below to get an idea of just what this “new footage” may look like.
