Pop singer Hilary Duff recently talked about her relationship with estranged husband Mike Comrie. She told US Weekly that the duo is attempting to work on their marriage before going through with a divorce. Currently, the separated couple are co-parenting their 2-year-old son Luca. The pair announced their split in January. Shortly after, they took a trip together and went to Coachella Music and Arts Festival last month.
Besides the split, Duff has been focused on raising her son and helping her older sister Haylie Duff with her upcoming nuptials. “Actually we just started,” the former Lizzie McGuire star said. “We don’t have a date or anything, but she’s starting to throw out ideas for venues and she’s obsessed with Pinterest.” Haylie plans to marry Matt Rosenberg.
Despite opening up about her estranged husband, Duff refused to talk about ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter’s recent romantic advances. The former couple dated for three years. They broke up in 2003. While attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards on May 1, the former pop star was asked about Carter’s revelations. “I don’t have an answer to that,” she said.
On March 5, Carter took to his Twitter to express his feelings for Duff. “Don’t be that stupid douche who loses the love of your life forever…” he tweeted. Last month, Carter told Entertainment Tonight he was not looking for a response from Duff. The former pop star also mentioned he never intended for the media or anybody else to pay attention to his tweets. “I didn’t really think about it, really,” he said. “I’m sure she got the message.”
While keeping mum about Carter, Duff continued to talk about her strong relationship with her estranged husband despite their marital issues. She explained the pair enjoys spending time together, and they appreciate each other’s happiness more now that they are separated. “We’re really good friends and we have so much respect for each other,” she said, “and obviously Luca is our number one priority.”
The couple married Aug. 14, 2010 in Santa Barbara, Calif. They began dating in 2007 and announced their engagement in February of the same year. The pair had their first child together March 20, 2012. Duff and Comrie went public with their separation Jan. 10, 2014.
The separated duo may be spending a lot of time together, but that does not mean they plan on getting back together anytime soon. “…We don’t know what our future looks like right now, but we’re both doing really good and just figuring out what makes us happy,” Duff explained.
Other than talking about her estranged husband, Duff mentioned some upcoming projects. Her television show Younger was recently picked up by TV Land. She has also signed a new record deal. She is expected to release another album in the fall. Of course, Duff has her hands full with a growing toddler as well. She mentioned her son is still working on finding ways to express himself fully, and she says Luca is very “spirited.” “He’s two!” she exclaimed. “So he definitely has a strong personality! He opened his own door today, I couldn’t believe it!”
