R&B singer Ray J was arrested on Friday night following a reported incident at the posh Beverly Wilshire Hotel. According to reports, Beverly Hills police were called to the hotel after the singer allegedly touched a woman inappropriately before ending the night by spitting on police.
According to reports, the incident between Ray J and the unidentified woman created a stir in the bar of the hotel. When police arrived on the scene and questioned the singer and the woman, officials determined that the incident was not one of sexual battery and the singer was asked to leave. Once at the hotel valet station, 33-year-old Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood, apparently started to act out and determined he did not want to leave the hotel after all.
Police handcuffed the singer and put him in the back of the patrol car when, according to reports, Ray J allegedly kicked through the window of the squad car. The singer was later transported to the Beverly Hills police station and charged with vandalism, trespassing, resisting arrest and, because of the alleged spitting incident, Ray J is also charged with battery. No comments on the recent arrest have been forthcoming from the singer’s representatives.
Known more for his romantic liaison with famous women than for his music, Ray J, who is the young brother of actress and recording artist Brandy, is mostly known for his participation in the notorious sex tape featuring his one-time girlfriend, Kim Kardashian. In his recent album, called Raydiation 2, the singer mocked his relationship with Kardashian and took a jab at her current husband Kanye West with a song called “I Hit It First.” Ray J has also been linked to a May-December relationship with Whitney Houston just before her death in 2012.
Before getting into the music industry, as a young boy Ray J attempted to follow in his big sister’s footsteps, starting in show business as an actor. Young Ray J would appear in a few commercials and television shows and was even given a long-time gig on his sister’s television sitcom, Moesha. Ray J’s other television roles included reality show For the Love of Ray J, a dating show which ran for two seasons that followed 14 female contestants vying for a chance to win a date with the singer. Brandy, Ray J, and their parents would team up together for their own reality series on VH1 called Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business which took a look into the Norwood household and the daily antics of running the family production company.
For the most part, Ray J’s image outside of being an entertainer is mainly wrapped up in his identity as Brandy’s little brother or Kim Kardashian’s sex-tape partner. This recent incident at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel is not reminiscent of any recent or distant situations tying him to the wrong side of the law. Unlike other young musicians like Justin Bieber, Ray J has not had his name make headlines for any known illegal activity until now.
