Willow Smith, the 13-year-old daughter of actor Will Smith and his wife Jada, has been photographed in bed with topless Disney actor Moises Arias, 20. Arias, most acclaimed for his role on Hannah Montana as Rico, was lying atop his bed with the young singer, with Smith fully clothed. The photograph, posted in black in white on Arias’s Instagram, has since been removed by Arias himself, although it is clear the damage has already been done. Concerned fans of the two young stars took the first opportunity to save the picture on their own devices and re-post it, some questioning Arias’s morality in posting such a questionable picture with such a young girl.
The incident has also brought up concern for Will and Jada’s parenting techniques. It is reported that both their daughter and son, Jaden Smith aged 15, attended the popular music festival Coachella with no supervision. They were accompanied by Jenner sisters, Kendall and Kylie, the teenage duo who have anything but an angelic reputation. Coachella is an event of which the entertainment does not stop at music; the festival is known for its heavy partying, drug-fueled reputation. Even though the Smith siblings have a fairly decent track record when it comes to their recreational past times, surely the two should have had some parental supervision while attending Coachella. Has a lapse in rules and guidance led to this concerning event?
While it is a fact that Smith and Arias have been friends for some time now, many feel that this does not improve the matter. What kind of friendship can a young girl of any age below that of adulthood have with a man 7 years her senior? It can be said, to a point, that the bond they share within the entertainment industry can be a stepping stone to connect; but even with this link, it is undeniably somewhat strange.
It has been suggested that those who grow up in the limelight at a very young age do not care much for the attention of those in their own age group, as they are not very accustomed to it, what with the inordinate amount of time they spend in the company of those much older. This is, of course, a very possible explanation to Smith’s tight bond with Arias. However, the loose reigns that Will and Jada-Pinkett Smith have on both their children seem to be the more logical answer. With seemingly no boundaries in what they can and cannot do, 13-year-old Willow seems to be making her first attempt at making that invisible line appear.
It is, of course, her parents who know her best and know what is in her best interest. However, this recent scandal should possibly serve as a warning that giving teenagers, especially those in the public eye, access to total freedom, is never the best idea. When a child that young spends so much time around those so much older than them, it is only natural to want to engage in the same sort of activity, which in the end can do more harm than good.
